Mavericks - Choppy Scrolling - Mac Mini 2012 - Philips Monitor - DVI over HDMI

Is anyone else having any problems with video, system animations, or general scrolling choppiness everywhere, now with the Mavericks upgrade?

I am running a 2012 Mac Mini, using a third party monitor, over hdmi port, with DVI adapter.

The result is horrendous. In Mountain Lion it was smooth as silk. Now, choppiness.

Mac mini, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

It does appear to be a permanent fix for my issue of chopiness of the mouse cursor and slow processing.

I don't have to reset the preference everytime I log-in. To make the change just go to System Preferences > General and set 'Show scroll bars' to 'Always'.

This really should be the default for PCs anyhow, hiding scrollbars hinders usability.

I had the same problem after trying out Autocad 2014 for Mac. I already uninstalled Autocad when I found the scrolling was extremely jumpy. It was like the animation frames of the scrolling (on websites, but also between spaces) were getting all mixed up in time. I noticed that the issue only appeared when using the integrated graphics on my MacBook Pro retina. With the discrete graphics, the problem was not there. I just reinstalled Autocad, opened it, made some quick drawings and closed it again, and the problem is now gone.

It seems like some bug in Autocad can affect the use of the discrete graphics chip for the entire system, even when Autocad is no longer in use or even installed. I hope that Autodesk and Apple get to the bottom of this, because I almost resorted to reinstalling my entire system, before I found the solution here.

It appears to me that the 'bottom" of this is that the Iris "integrated" graphics can't keep up with a 15" Retina screen ... at least with Mavericks. Only way I've found ANY solace is to download gfxCardStatus and select "Discrete Only". Shouldn't be that way as using the Integrated solution is supposed to cut down on the power requirement for running the Retina display using the discrete graphics card. About time for Apple to 'fess-up" and fix it! I shouldn't have to use "work-arounds" with a $3000+ laptop!!!!!

HELLO

Everyone - I spent hours trying to fix the problem for this, and it is so simple. For me the lag was a little different, when opening up the dashboard with the gesture, it would lag and flash, but only on my personal account, not the guest account.

Instead of a full restore, i decided to make a new account and see what happened and voila no issue with lag at all. I thought everything was perfect, and I went on to set up my rMBP how I like it, then.... it started.

I retraced my steps backwards and found the issue!!!

Its simply the difference between SCROLL DIRECTION in the TRACKPAD Preferences. On Natural - ZERO LAG, with Natural deselected, LAG is INSTANT. l

Unfortunately I hate it ticked, but I hate the lag more so I will learn to live with it.
