Mavericks Mail App and Gmail folders

My Gmail on Mavericks works just as well as my iPhone. What is different for you.

OK so you have an issue with GMail as a mail system in general. That's fine.

But I don't care about how this effects Windows. In fact I don't care about Windows.. if I did. I'd use it. And that's not at issue here.

The issue is that at least part of Apple "gets it" when it comes to working with Gmail/IMAP and certain developers do also (AirMail, and Thunderbird both work with Gmail/IMAP just fine).

Apple needs to do something about it. It's that simple. Until then we can all at least share what we find from here.

Try reading a little more comprehnsively.

Gmail problems are widespread, random and intermittent. They affect all platforms not just Mail.

Research first, post second.

I havent seen any horde of people complaining about an update to a mail client (e.g. thunderbird or airmail) totally breaking usage of gmail on apple computers - except in the case of apple mail. The fact remains gmail worked reasonably well with apple mail, until apple updated it and then its been a total mess since for many people. This is why I no longer use apple mail and will think very carefully about buying another apple computer in future.

hi doug, did u ever find a solution to the issue of "flag settings are not being observed. Read mail is not being marked as read"?

Blaming Google for Gmail not being standards-based is not helpful in this situation. Mail in Mountain Lion and before worked just fine with Gmail. If you launch Mail in 10.8 right now, you will find that the issues people are having with Gmail in 10.9 are absent. So clearly Google didn't change anything. Apple has changed the way that Mail works in 10.9, and it is not working well with Gmail. Thunderbird works just fine with Gmail, in both 10.8 and 10.9. So saying that this is all because of Google doesn't make any sense.

People are having problems with their mail ever since upgrading OS X to 10.9. Asking them to abandon their email provider is not a reasonable response. Asking them to switch email clients is perhaps a reasonable suggestion, but that doesn't fix the problems that Mail is having, and for some people it's not a viable solution. Mail is very neatly integrated into the OS and it's nice to be able to take advantage of that.

Thank you Jon - I'm getting tired of CSounds anti-Google rhetoric. If he doesn't like it, he should simply bow out of the discussion and ignore us.
