It does truly make me sad for you and I wish you well. If you have a solution let's hear it. I get the updates to this thread because I am here waiting for Apple to fix the issue or for someone here to come up with a solution. Now back to my regularly scheduled life. And Doug Lerner2 - I feel your pain. Thank you for keeping this thread going. I don't know what it will take for Apple to fix the issue but I hope that by continuing to check in and make note of issues something positive will come out of this.

That's right, not one, and if you actually read this thread you'll see that there are plenty of others.
But rather than trying to find the differences that may cast light on the issue you would rather make useless retorts to the facts of the issue.
Right now I see a few users who can't get Gmail to work in Mail, and some who can, what do you think is the difference, other than the users?

Jan 12, 2014 6:35 AM in response to Csound1by Tilliebird,Csound1 - Since you believe it is the users' fault and not the Apple upgrade (even though it mysteriously happened for many people just after the upgrade) maybe you can share your solution - or let those of us with less experience know what the settings should be for our gmail so we can get it to work too. It would be awesome if you would share that, actually, if you don't mind. I assume you are in these threads because you are some sort of computer person - since, as you said you don't have the issue I assume you are here because you know how to fix such problems or at least know what settings we should use. It would be a positive thing if you wouldn't mind sharing. I know I would be grateful as I sure others would be. I assume you aren't here just to call people out on their inexperience so something positive coming out of this would be great. Thank you ahead of time!

You did not answer anything. You made assumptions just to be snarky and sarcastic, without offering even one iota of useful information.
I'm just volunteering on Sundays to help a non-profit organization that works with handicapped people learn to use their Macs.
I did not set up any of their computers or email. They all set it up under different circumstances (with help from Apple at the store where they bought it, helped by a family member, etc.), but all just did a vanilla install on new MacBooks using their existing Gmail accounts.
Are you a troll here? I think I'm done responding to you unless you actually have something useful to add.

Set up Gmail (or G.Apps) manually, do not present any but the standard Imap folders (labels) to Mail. Then it works reliably (for me)
I use Inbox, Sent, Trash and Drafts only without issue.
If you need to see all those other labels I would suggest using a client designed for Gmails unique method of doing things, such as Airmail.

I configured my gmail everyway I knew how to be able to keep the labels too but no good. I put off getting Airmail because I kept hoping that Apple would be nice and fix things for us. What was I thinking?! Thanks!

I also tested Airmail for quite a while, and submitted many bug reports to them. They are a nice group of people, but unfortunately Airmail is quite buggy, and doesn't work very well with Gmail. For example, very often sent email do not end up labeled as Sent and therefore you can't find it in the sent folder.
Also, their move between accounts doesn't work well (it changes the dates on mails moved), and their "send again" doesn't work right.
If you like labels, you should be aware that you can't create new labels from within the program itself. You have to go to the web interface for that, which slows things down.
Because things were not get labeled and archived correctly, it eventually got irritating to use, though I commend them on what they are trying to do. Still, it remains quite buggy. A work in progress.
Right now I'm using Mailplane, which at least is designed to work with Gmail directly. The work-flow is quite quick. And you can add new labels on the fly. And there are loads of keyboard shortcuts. And you know that everything is reliably where it ought to be.

Jan 12, 2014 7:17 AM in response to Tilliebirdby Csound1,I have not seen the issues Doug refers to with Airplane, but if that does not work for you try Mail Pilot, full support for Gmail labels is included.
It also works correctly with iCloud mail, I have yet to test any other providers, but when I do I'll post the results. (Unfortunately Exchange accounts are not supported so it is no use to me as a general mail client)

I know what you mean. I was using Apple Mail for years and then after upgrading to Maverick - wham - it just stops working.
Good luck with whatever solution you try.
You can try Mailplane for 15 days for free. It's quite harmless. So you might want to take a look. Their user support is also quite good. You can get help from within the app itself, which sends diagnostic data to them, and they seem really anxious to sort out problems. See http://mailplaneapp.com/.
