Airport Utility 5.6 on Mavericks?

How can I manage older Airport hardware without Airport Utility 5.6 on Mavericks? I have an ORIGINAL Airport Express G wireless router that I use to boost the signal for a G Wifi network I run at home. I also have a a Airport Extreme N (3 gen) and Airport Express (N white puck) model running an N network as well.

MacBook Pro (15-inch Mid 2010), OS X Mavericks (10.9), 2.66ghz, 4gb ram

This seems like a little thing, but it's the last straw for me: I'm done with the closed Apple ecosystem. The security offered by Apple is not worth this kind of hassle to just get hardware that I own, from the same company, working together.

I've had a lousy morning because my Time Capsule crapped out on me at a critical juncture, I went to use the Airport Express as a backup (sure, it's a little old but why wouldn't it work, right?) and here I am plugged directly into my cable modem only to find out I have to jump through hoops or use a Windows machine to configure Apple hardware (which didn't work either).

Removal of posts is just the cherry on top--I'm sure this one will go the same way soon enough but by then I will have solved the problem... by buying a non-Apple wireless router.

Like all other companies they try to get you to UPDATE and UPGRADE at every opportunity. The problem is these large Corporations fail to realize we as users have to save up our hard earned money to buy the latest at every juncture of time when they come out with new products. This is true of Apple and all of the PC MARKET as well.

I think if you do a little more research you will find that your equipment although functional is OUTDATED. I have 5 older Macs that still work but for all intensive purposes are so far outdated they can only be used for kids to play games on. You will find that if a user tries to make every attempt to keep all of there equipment up to date it will run like a Swiss watch. This sometimes takes more reading then we would really like to do but it pays off. Apple still has the best products on the market and will in the foreseeable future.

Just Google "AirPort Utility 5.6.1 OS X 10.9 Mavericks" and you'll find a solution. We are not, however, allowed to link it on these forums.

If you want to filter out the results from Apple Support Communities (which provide no actual solutions due to the aforementioned restrictions), then search Google for "AirPort Utility 5.6.1 OS X 10.9 Mavericks -site:apple.com".

Steve Hoge,

There was an issue with the solution you mentioned related to the download-management plugin used by that site. The issue has been resolved (by creating direct-download links instead of using the download manager). Please try the solution again, as it should now work. (The download-amangement pluginw as corrupting zip files on download, for some reason.).

Thanks, I found the direct link you're referring to and it unzipped correctly after downloading. I had used the large prominent DOWNLOAD button which gave the endlessly recursive unzip process.

I hope everyone will send an Apple Feedback message regarding this issue. http://www.apple.com/feedback/

http://www.apple.com/feedback/ I just don't respect how Apple can brick all our Airport Express units that are all relatively new! Here is my feedback:

"I've invested on a few Airport Express units around my network for extending the Wifi signal and/or streaming music.

Mavericks in effect just bricked all these units! I understand there are work-arounds, one being utilizing Windows Airport Utility. Really? I'd have to acquire a Windows machine just to make an Apple product have functionality? How *** backwards is that?

Please extend some love for these older AE units."

I am simply outraged by this.

Wrote feedback to apple.

I feel like I have been "rewarded" for DECADES of brand fidelity by taking away features from a product I paid for. My crime? I bought a new Mac Book Pro and thus upgraded to Mavericks.

For now I use the workaround described here (deletions didn't quite work but thanks for being vigilant, Apple).

The ability to throttle the WiFi radio signal power is important to me, along with other advanced functions now gone.

While we are at it:

The Airport Utility in its 5.6 iteration wasn't quite the bee's knees anyway, not even close to the levels of customisation I am used to in other routers.

The new one looks like it has been designed by a "social media specialist".
