Nov 12, 2013 9:02 AM in response to Damien-007by loelcc,I had the same thing happen to me (Apple removing my post). I'm pretty sure the Apple moderators are deleting the posts to the easy solution (Airport Utility 5.6.1 launcher) because that site provides the 5.6.1 binary along with the launcher script. When you think about it, it is pretty dangerous to download an Apple utility or app from a third party. I did it and it worked for me (so far) but it really is a theoretically unsafe fix (I'm NOT saying the fix is unsafe, just that downloading Apple binaries from third party web sites is inherently unsafe). I probably should have found and downloaded the Airport Utility 5.6.1 on Apple's site and just used the launcher to be safe(r).

Nov 12, 2013 9:17 PM in response to loelccby KlaatuBarada, loelcc:
I assume that the risk of downloading the launcher is much less than the binary image. In my case I already had a copy of AU 5.6.1. It was sitting there with a flag superimposed on he icon indicating that it was not compatible with OSX 10.9.
Anyway the I am happy as a clam I am up and running with AU 5.5.1.

Nov 12, 2013 9:21 PM in response to KlaatuBaradaby Zyniker13,You are correct in assuming that, Klaatu. The code for the companion Launcher application is available in the article (which we are not allowed to link here), and the older version of the application (from wherever acquired) will work with the Launcher so long as they are located in the same folder.

Nov 15, 2013 8:25 AM in response to loelccby pdangler,This seems like a little thing, but it's the last straw for me: I'm done with the closed Apple ecosystem. The security offered by Apple is not worth this kind of hassle to just get hardware that I own, from the same company, working together.
I've had a lousy morning because my Time Capsule crapped out on me at a critical juncture, I went to use the Airport Express as a backup (sure, it's a little old but why wouldn't it work, right?) and here I am plugged directly into my cable modem only to find out I have to jump through hoops or use a Windows machine to configure Apple hardware (which didn't work either).
Removal of posts is just the cherry on top--I'm sure this one will go the same way soon enough but by then I will have solved the problem... by buying a non-Apple wireless router.

Nov 15, 2013 12:20 PM in response to pdanglerby Donald Morgan,Like all other companies they try to get you to UPDATE and UPGRADE at every opportunity. The problem is these large Corporations fail to realize we as users have to save up our hard earned money to buy the latest at every juncture of time when they come out with new products. This is true of Apple and all of the PC MARKET as well.
I think if you do a little more research you will find that your equipment although functional is OUTDATED. I have 5 older Macs that still work but for all intensive purposes are so far outdated they can only be used for kids to play games on. You will find that if a user tries to make every attempt to keep all of there equipment up to date it will run like a Swiss watch. This sometimes takes more reading then we would really like to do but it pays off. Apple still has the best products on the market and will in the foreseeable future.

Nov 20, 2013 6:08 PM in response to Donald Morganby C. Jerome,Same issue here as everyone else. I use an old airport connected to my laserjet for wirless printing. Having a problem connecting to it now and I can't log into see if what's going on and why our prints are not coming out. Hope apple offers a long term solution soon.

Nov 21, 2013 6:00 AM in response to C. Jeromeby Boyd Porter,Ask Apple to offer a solution via their feedback page: http://www.apple.com/feedback/ and select the device you have. This is a user to user forum.
Have a nice day.

Nov 21, 2013 6:44 AM in response to I love the mac! (jst nt probs)by Zyniker13,Just Google "AirPort Utility 5.6.1 OS X 10.9 Mavericks" and you'll find a solution. We are not, however, allowed to link it on these forums.
If you want to filter out the results from Apple Support Communities (which provide no actual solutions due to the aforementioned restrictions), then search Google for "AirPort Utility 5.6.1 OS X 10.9 Mavericks -site:apple.com".

Nov 21, 2013 8:05 AM in response to Boyd Porterby jneill,It's not just user-to-user is it...? Big brother is watching and deletes the solution. Perhaps Apple has forgotten its own 1984 ad campaign.

Nov 21, 2013 10:06 AM in response to Boyd Porterby Fernando Colina,One way a company can understand its customers better is by letting them express freely their opinions about the products they own (you know, paid money for). The question posed by C. Jerome is absolutely germane to the topic.
Have a nicer day.

Nov 22, 2013 9:11 PM in response to Fernando Colinaby Steve Hoge,I had trouble using Corey's tool to re-enable 5.6.1 under (in my case) Mt Lion, but the method published by Frank Tisellano using an Automator workflow to extract and install the executable worked for me. I sent him 2 bucks for the trouble.

Nov 23, 2013 4:02 AM in response to Steve Hogeby Zyniker13,Steve Hoge,
There was an issue with the solution you mentioned related to the download-management plugin used by that site. The issue has been resolved (by creating direct-download links instead of using the download manager). Please try the solution again, as it should now work. (The download-amangement pluginw as corrupting zip files on download, for some reason.).

Thanks, I found the direct link you're referring to and it unzipped correctly after downloading. I had used the large prominent DOWNLOAD button which gave the endlessly recursive unzip process.

Dec 8, 2013 10:24 AM in response to Steve Hogeby Dale Fernandez,I hope everyone will send an Apple Feedback message regarding this issue. http://www.apple.com/feedback/
http://www.apple.com/feedback/ I just don't respect how Apple can brick all our Airport Express units that are all relatively new! Here is my feedback:
"I've invested on a few Airport Express units around my network for extending the Wifi signal and/or streaming music.
Mavericks in effect just bricked all these units! I understand there are work-arounds, one being utilizing Windows Airport Utility. Really? I'd have to acquire a Windows machine just to make an Apple product have functionality? How a$$ backwards is that?
Please extend some love for these older AE units."
