random reboots after upgrade to mavericks

I recently upgraded from Lion to Mavericks (from App Store), and now my iMac reboots at random. The developer preview had similar issues, but there was a preview update that resolved this issue. The iMac is a 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 16GB RAM. I didn't have this issue under Lion.

I have downgraded as well (MacBook Pro 6,2). Back to 10.6, after 3 weeks and hundreds of random reboots. There is a rumour that in the case of my machine kernel panics might have to do with a faulty logic board (nvidia chip) which only becomes visible if you go beyond 10.6. There is even a 3 year replacment program, which I will try. If I get accepted. So far the pseudo-genius at a major Apple reseller in Berlin has told me that I might be happy that my book at least runs with 10.6 and should not desire more. Or buy a new machine. That is so ridiculous. But actually might be my only choice. Frustrating experience, made me lose days of work. Is that a kind of secret "tolerated" obsolescence?

I've been monitoring this thread since it started. Seems like we all have similiar issues with different causes.

I typically get 1-4 reboots a day, working 8 hours on a 2008 Mac Pro using Mavricks. The reboots I experience all happen when using Adobe Illustrator (CC) when I save, only Illustrator, only when saving, which I should add is to a SMB attached network volume.

I wanted to add to this thread that for the past 2 days I have disabled Google Drive and I have not had a single reboot since, and I have been using Illustrator heavily. It used to reboot about 25% of the time I did a save, and I must have saved 30 times in the past 2 days with zero reboots.

My two cents. I have a team of 6 Mac users here at work that I don't want to upgrade, or even get the new Mac Pros for if there's even a chance this'll happen. This needs to be addressed.

Edit: FWIW, I have no attached USB devices other than mouse & keyboard, and Time Machine is disabled.

I had this problem for the last month (when left idle, my iMac would reboots itself - I use Maverick). I looked and looked for a solution and tried everything (safe boot, resetting SMC, resetting PRAM and NVRAM ....) and no success.

Finally, I used the Energy Saver panel and pushed the Restore Defauls button. PROBLEM SOLVED

Hopefully this will help others.
