Q: Did Mavericks drop support for express card SSDs?

Exactly krsmes, I can't even find a driver for an expresscard SSD.

So, I finished installing Maverick on my Wintec in a 2008 MacBook Pro as mentioned earlier.  It works perfectly.  I can boot from the drive, unmount it (when it's not the boot drive), etc.

But, take the same card and put in the 2010 Macbook Pro and nothing - completely invisible to the OS.

This message repeats in the console whenever I insert or remove the card -

On the 2008 MacBook, the number of bridges is 6 and increases to 7 when the card is inserted.  I'm wonderring if there is now a limit on the number of PCI bridges that are supported.

Next test is to unplug my internal CDROM and see if reducing the number of bridges makes a difference.

I am in the same situation with 17" MBP 2010 and the Wintec 96GB card. Just thought i will post to let apple know that, there are many facing this issue.

I am having the same problem with a 17" MBP 2010 and a Wintec 128GB card.  Waiting for an upgrade to Maverick to fix the situation.

I already tried everything that I could... Installed new kexts, reboot, reboot, drivers, nothing.

And I have also Kernel Panics when I boot the system with the cards pluged.

I don´t use SSD cards, but esata card and usb 3.0 card.

In OSX 10.8.5 everything is working. I tried to copy the drivers from Mountain Lion without sucess.

Seems that have a bug that block the acess to ExpressCard in Macbook 17" mid 2010 or whatever.

Hope the solution come soon or keep going with Mountain Lion forever...

Mine is a late 2009 17 inch MacBook Pro, for whatever that is worth.  I am using the sonnet express card to attach an esata OWC Mercury enclosure.  Still working fine after just reinstalling the old driver.

So, Maybe I found some solutions for my ExpressCards (JMicron 363)that was not working after installed Mavericks.

I read many days in foruns trying to reconnect my eSata HDD and in the end I did the following:

1)Install using the Multibeast software the drivers 3rd Party esata and 3rd Party sata.

2)Reboot the system

3)Go to your Mavericks /System/Lybrary/Extensions and delete the kext IOPCIFamily.kext

4)From a installed copy of Mountain Lion go to the same folder /System/Lybrary/Extensions and copy the same file (IOPCIFamily.kext) to a pen drive or other place.

5) download the Kext Wizard software and open it.

6) Go to the tab instalation and drag the kext copied form Mountain Lion inside the white box in the window software.

7) Install the kext.

8) Go to the Maintenance tab and select System/Library/Extension (Repair Permitions and Rebuild Cache) and Execute.

9) Reboot the system and conect the eSata HDD.

You have your esata working again.

(I didn´t test everything yet but at least they are mounted in Mavericks and I have my esata working.

Hope that don´t cause other problems.)

Maybe I found a solution for my ExpressCards (JMicron chipset jmb363) that was not working after I installed Mavericks.

I have the a MAC 17" Mid 2010 and I tried many things for days, testing, booting and doing some tricks. After a week I manage to back my eSata ExpressCard work properly again. Just my GMYLE USB 3.0 ExpressCard doesn´t work properly. It mount but when I try to copy in and copy some files Finder returns a Error Code -36 (cannot write or read from the disk).

So, I did the following:

1)Install (using the Multibeast software) the drivers 3rd Party esata, 3rd Party sata and USB 3.0 Universal.

2)Reboot the system

3)Go to your Mavericks /System/Lybrary/Extensions and delete the kext IOPCIFamily.kext

4)From a installed system of Mountain Lion go to the same folder /System/Lybrary/Extensions and copy the same file (IOPCIFamily.kext) to a pen drive or other place.

5) Back in Mavericks, download the Kext Wizard software and run it.

6) Go to the tab instalation and drag the kext copied form Mountain Lion inside the white box in the window software.

7) Install the kext.

8) Go to the Maintenance tab and select System/Library/Extension (Repair Permitions and Rebuild Cache) and Execute.

9) Reboot the system and conect the eSata HDD.

You´ll have your esata working again.

Does this work for the Caldigit Express card USB 3 as well?

DId you install Mavericks successfully to it when connected via USB? Does it boot from that? Anyone else have luck with that??

I had been booting from my Wintec Filemate SSD in the expresscard slot on Mountain Lion. I connected it via USB, and was able to successfully upgrade it to Mavericks. I've been booting from it via USB for the last couple of weeks and haven't had any problems.

None of my express card adapters work in this 2010 MBP 17"

I can confirm that this works with the Caldigit Express Card USB 3

Heres what I did:

1. Removed IOPCIFamily.kext from /System/Lybrary/Extensions

2. Replaced IOPCIFamily.kext from Mountain Lion

3. Repaired permisions

4. Rebooted

5. FYI: I also installed the drivers from Caldigit

Downloading and using Kext Wizard to install the kexts was the key for me getting my Tempo Express 34 card working again. Just deleting and copying files didn't work.

Yes you must use Kext Wizard, copying and pasting will simply not work.
