Confirming that THEIMAGEHOUSE solution above worked flawlessly!

I have called Apple Support - we have removed all launch agents and demons and - tada - everything is working now!

Now I'll copy back all agents & demons until it is broken again.

There are some critical stuff like parallels, paragon ntfs and little snitch - however one of these agents or demons is incompatible with mavericks.

I will report my findings...

Yes, please let us what is causing the issue! Previous solutions haven't worked for me.

I know it isn't little Snitch, and it works, I have Little Snitch, and and I also installed the kext replacement as previously given  in this thread Mu Transcendcard works.

The Kext fix worked for me two.  Both Sonnet Compact Flash and eSata adapter are functional.  Thanks to all those who spent hours figuring out a fix.  A bit of a shame that Apple has not issued a fix yet.

This is awesome Mid-year 2010. The wizard and the kext wore flawlessly. I applied it after the 10.9.1 update. So let's hope this holds for a while.

I've held off updating my 17" MacBook Pro, Early 2011 (MacBookPro 8,3) until now because of the sort of concerns I'm reading here. I have a Caldigit Express Card and two of their AV Drives connecting most of the time using USB3. I've been bitten in the past when I've updated too fast (Caldigit drivers weren't yet available) but having taken all the precautions this time (TWO external bootable drives for luck) I took the plunge, installed 10.9.1 and everything works fine. I haven't even downloaded any drivers from the Caldigit site. They don't seem to be necessary.

I'm just posting this here in case someone else is in a similar position and has the same concerns as I did until an hour ago.

They are giving us a non to subtle hint that Express Cards are a thing of the past like serial Ports and SCSI (Scuzy) Drives. And are no longer supporting them. Since the newest machine use USB and Thunderbolt connections. And there is talk That maybe even the Thunderbolt connector is being replaces wit something new.

Even now new machine don't have Ethernet, not do they have FireWire. You have to pop for a $40.00 a piece Thunderbolt to ... Adapter. And new Machines don't come with a DVD.

Can someone post instructions on how to run the Kext wizard.  I too have the macbook 2010 10,6 and my expresscard34 from sonnet ceased to work for my external graid drive.

Does anyone know whether Mavericks is ok with the esata ports on a mac pro desktop.  I want to upgrade to mavericks on my mac pro, but have about 4 external drives running off of esata ports from both the internal apple supplied ports on the mac pro and a pci card that is plugged in... It would be devatating to me if the mavericks upgrade disabled access to these drives...like it did with my macbook pro via the pcie edge card.

Thank you Apple, but no thank you. Hope the person/team who made this decision (leave out expresscard support for existing customer base) will have his f'in d**k dragged across a broken glass field for miles and miles! Apologies for the wording, but I am pretty upset about this approach.

And of course HUGE thank you to guys sharing the old .kext. mine was already gone from time machine backups.

I have a MBP 2011 17" and I bought a Gmyle Express Card to USB 3.0. I followed Cascag's instructions and they did not work completely for me I am attaching it for you to try it if it works for you that's awesome. So here it is:

"Maybe I found a solution for my ExpressCards (JMicron chipset jmb363) that was not working after I installed Mavericks.

I have the a MAC 17" Mid 2010 and I tried many things for days, testing, booting and doing some tricks. After a week I manage to back my eSata ExpressCard work properly again. Just my GMYLE USB 3.0 ExpressCard doesn´t work properly. It mount but when I try to copy in and copy some files Finder returns a Error Code -36 (cannot write or read from the disk).

So, I did the following:

1)Install (using the Multibeast software) the drivers 3rd Party esata, 3rd Party sata and USB 3.0 Universal.

2)Reboot the system

3)Go to your Mavericks /System/Lybrary/Extensions and delete the kext IOPCIFamily.kext

4)From a installed system of Mountain Lion go to the same folder /System/Lybrary/Extensions and copy the same file (IOPCIFamily.kext) to a pen drive or other place.

5) Back in Mavericks, download the Kext Wizard software and run it.

6) Go to the tab instalation and drag the kext copied form Mountain Lion inside the white box in the window software.

7) Install the kext.

8) Go to the Maintenance tab and select System/Library/Extension (Repair Permitions and Rebuild Cache) and Execute.

9) Reboot the system and conect the eSata HDD.

You´ll have your esata working again.

(I didn´t test everything yet but at least is mounted in Mavericks and I have my esata working again.

Hope that don´t cause other problems.)

Now if that didnt work for you and you get an Error 36 for copying file to and from the USB 3.0 ports you may want to try the following. I also noticed that with the previous instruction you are able to use your USB 3.0 port for 2.0 with no problems. But that was not the purpose for me to get the Express Card in the first place. I wanted to use my 3.0 thumb drive which has 256 GB by Winten absolutely awesome if you ask me .

So this is what I did:

1. Go to http://www.insanelymac.com
2. Create a username (that's the only way you will download anything)
3. Search for USB 3.0.
4. And you will find this file: ASMedia USB3 download it.
5. If your mac doesnt do it automatically then zip the file.
6. Look for the folder Kext
7. Now open Kext Wizard
8. Drag those two files from the Kext folder you downloaded
9. Repeat steps 6 and 9 from the previous intallation.
10. Enjoy your USB 3.0 ports

In all honesty it took me forever to get to this point. Thanks to all the guys that contributed to this completion CASCAG, THE IMAGE HOUSE, EWWHITEHEAD dude you guys kept me going. THANKS!

An Expresscard 128 GB did not work in my 17" Macbook Pro, just as reported by others here.

However, I switched to a 128 GB "StorEdge" SD fitted into a SanDisk ExpressCard adapter.

This worked from the get-go.  Is this disadvantageous in any way?

Took me some time but with all the information and the IOPCIFamily.kext Mountain Lion file I found and downloaded in this conversation (took me most time to figure that one out as mine was gone from TimeMachine too, and on my other MacBook Pro 10.8.5 I couldn't find it at all), together with the Kext Wizard.app (thank you all other people here for uploading!) it worked 100% so far. This is what we're all here for. Together we fix it. Great work,

For the one's who're still struggling:

I'm one of those MacBook Pro 17-inch, Mid 2010 users. After reading most complaints I worried if mine would ever work again. For all other who didn't work it out, here's my preferences:

MacBook Pro 17-inch, Mid 2010

Mac OS X 10.9.1

Processor  2,66 GHz Intel Core i7

Expresscard LaCie SATA II ExpressCard 34 (previous blue type, not the orange one).

External Disks Attached 2 LaCie Disks.

Conclusion Both mount and work 100% with FinalCut Pro 7

Here's a  message to the crazy one's at Apple:

Shame on you lazy cheats!

When users are getting more clever than developers one might think it's going the wrong direction.

It seems more of a nasty marketing trick to force people to buy new Mac's. Rather help your customers instead of having bad publicity. Does Apple have any idea how bad this is for the environment? All those disks and Macs and hardware needing to be replaced ending up on junkyards while still good to go.

I want to keep using my 17" MacBook Pro as I love it and need the larger screen size for the extra windows and tools. As it isn't being discontinued with the new MacBook Pro models (a lame idea in the first place) at least don't frustrate users with very poor service, or actually: no service on this one at all.

Steve Jobs would have fired the one's being responsible for this major stupidity.

Now fix it as soon as possible with Mac OS X 10.9.2 or do get the broken glass field treatment as discussed earlier in this conversation.

And while we're on it anyway: where is the long expected 4K Cinema Display.

Please do support your early hour users (I use and invested major bucks in Apple since 1986) and do pay some respect.

We make you keep your job.
