Mavericks and iTunes 11.1.2 Won't wifi sync iPhone

Since updating to Mavericks and iTunes 11.1.2 itunes no longer recognizes either my iphone or ipad via wi-fi.

I have plugged them in and toggled the checkbox to no avail.

I have even restored my iphone. No deal.

If I plug them in, then I can sync. But even with the box checked to sync over wi-fi, as soon as I unplug the phone, it loses connecton.

I have also rebooted the phone and restarted my computer.

The sync over wi-fi opton is completely unavailable.

Been having same issue. Finally searched to see if there was a fix. FOUND IT!

-------------

System Preferences>Network>Select Ethernet (left column) then click Advanced Button (lower right of window)

Set the IPv6 to Link-Local Only

Click Apply.

I relaunched iTunes and then in a bit, both my i-devices showed up.

Works. Can finally sync my iDevices via wifi.

Unfortunatly, for me, it still doens't work.

After altering the settings in Network to those discribed by Neil, iTunes still can't see my iPhone. If I restart my iPhone, it appears on iTunes and I am able to synch them. However, after the computer goes to sleep and wakes up again, we are back to square one. The iPhone, as before, fails to appear in iTunes.

A second to Amin_AA: I, too, have tried everytihng I've seen in this discussion. Sometimes after a restart my iPhone appears in iTunes and allows one wi-fi sync, but never a second one (this last thing, unfortunately, is the only thing that is consistent and dependable.) Everything worked fine for years before Mavericks and iOS 7 reared their superficially pretty but fundamentally ugly heads.

God, I hope I don't jinx it but ..... ever since last night's OS and iTunes updates (which insidentelly, also restorded the USB synching of contacts, calander, ext. for those insisting on draging this unrelated issue into this thread), WiFi synch has been working for me. It worked at the office and now, on a seprate network and WiFi router and after going into sleep for the journey, at home also.

Fingers crossed.

I'm with you, it stopped working a month maybe 2 months ago, hasn't worked since. I've tried all suggestions here, even tried an entirely separate network AND tried it on another Mac... which probably eliminates it from being a Mac issue and a network issue. That leaveas the iOS devices themselves I guess.

Might make sense I think there was an iOS update back about the time it stopped working for me.

Mine ejects my iOS devices immediately after unplugging. No amount of rebooting etc. has ever brought back wifi sync. 2 iPads, one iPhone, nada...

My wife's iMac and her iPad and iPhone... same deal as me... not one will sync over wifi.

If I try initiate a remote sync from iOS it runs for a few seconds, blinks, then continues to run until it times out and finds nothing to sync with.

I started having this problem (no longer able to sync my family's two iPhones to my Mac over wifi - iTunes on the iMac not even recognising that iPhones were connected to the network over Wifi) last year. It was around the time I'd updated to both Mavericks and iOS 7, so I wasn't sure whether it was Mavericks or iOS 7 that was causing the problem.

I tried ALL of the solutions described in this thread but nothing worked. I've been trying various solutions for many months.

Then my iMac's hard drive died, and after I got the drive replaced I had to reinstall Mavericks from scratch.

After that, Wifi sync started working again perfectly! (After connecting the iPhones to the Mac via USB and pulling them up in iTunes a single time, to register them with the computer again.)

So, it's not a fun or quick solution - but if you're still having this problem, I recommend doing a fresh install of Mavericks.

I hope that helps!

May 17, 2014 1:10 AM in response to Lukecro

Lukecro's comment about synch working after a re-installation made me think of something. I had problems getting the App store update process working this time around and ended up downloading the OS and iTunes updates manually and running them locally. This is about the only thing I can point to as being diffrent to what I have done previously that could possibly have resulted in Wifi synch being restored for me.

With Lukecro's experiance showing that a fresh re-installation fixed synch, I wonde if something is going wrong somewhere with automatic updates. Perhaps it might be worth it for people to try downloadig the OS and iTunes updates manually. After applying both updates, and after the copmputer re-starts, switch the iOS devices on and off and see if they now appear in iTunes and stay there after a couple of days.

Possibly. but Apple does indeed have active support. Are you not in a position to use that?

This is hardly a widespread issue. Considering it's over a ntework, the cause could be outside of IOS and OS X. My bet is on some overlooked network setting somwhere, perhaps set inadvertantly by software.

At any rate, do you people that have this issue report it to Apple? Just report it.

We just complained back local Contacts and Calendar sync to iTunes 11.2 (as part of 10.9.3), didn't we? Talk directly to Apple. It works.

Anyway, in case this is a recurring issue for the future for people stuck in at least some older versions of OS X, it would be nice if we collectively could please make an effort to list again not only possible solutions that have repeatedly been succesful for at least some people, but also how you can provoke this error if you don't have it. It's not a default error I think it's safe to say.

The only issue I've had with Wifi syncing was with my iPhone 3gs with IOS 6 and OS X Lion 10.7 that woulld start syncing but would disappear during the process. As soon as I got the iPhone 5 with IOS 6 this issue disappeared, though I had downgraded to Snow Leopard by then too.

The succesful solutions I've heard lately are

  1. The IPv6 reset
  2. Reinstallation of the OS

What are the others?

Does anyone have a likely way to make Wifi sync not work on some version of OS X combined with what version of IOS? What do you think you did to make it happen, if anything? Do we see a pattern in what likely caused the error and which specific solution that works to get the sync back?
