Q: OS X Mavericks failed to download

Hi,

I'm having an error message 'OS X Mavericks failed to download' every time when I try to download it. Sometimes it took some time to happen, like after the process is around 50%, or sometimes just happened after a minutes. I tried over 10 times and this still persist! I didn't change my DNS settings, I'm using my ISP's. Anyone facing this problem too? How can I fix this???

Thanks in advance,

Nathan.

"If that didn't help, try using another user account. If you don't have one, create one in System Preferences -> Users. Log in with the new account, open App Store, etc. You can remove the new account after the installation."

This seems to have solved my problem... It has just crossed 1 GB though... I am hopeful it will complete it...

You just saved me a lot of time and I didn't know about the TMPDIR variable until now.

    THANK YOU.

The first time I've tried to install Mavericks, I accidentally lost my internet connection for a couple of minutes and the download failed at 3.48 GB. After that, I couldn't go further.

None of the proposed solutions helped me to cross that 3.48 GB mark. Restarting, deleting, Terminal, new apple ID, another ISP, google DNS, etc, etc... I've tried everything.

    Any other suggestion?

    Thanks!

My download was interrupted because my hard drive filled up.  It took me a while to figure out how to get things working again but in the end this is what I did that made it work again.

The crucial step for me seemed to be deleting the com.apple.appstore in $TMPDIR/../C but the other steps may have also been important.

    Open the App Store application:

    * Go to the menu "Store - View My Account"

    * Under "iTunes in the Cloud" choose "Manage"

    * If the application you are trying to download (in this case "OS X Mavericks Installer") is listed under "Hidden Purchases" click the "Unhide button next to its name.

Quit the App Store application and open the Terminal app:

    # cd ~/Library

    # rm -r  Caches/com.apple.appstore/ Cookies/com.apple.appstore* Preferences/com.apple.appstore*

    # cd $TMPDIR/../C

    # rm -r com.apple.appstore/

Please be careful with those rm commands if you're not used to the terminal!

    Hello,

For those who didn't find a solution yet... I had the downloading halted at some moment, and no way to restart it later on.

I tried everything listed here without success. Finally, managed to restart the download following the instruction below:

Just click "install app" from the app store, when you're prompted to try again in the "purchase"-tab, simply leave the prompting be and go into launch-pad, hold "alt" and close the mavericks app that on "waiting". after that u should be able to download it via the app-store "update"-tab. good luck

       Hope this helps!

Vallderrama1's answer fixed it for me.  I'd click "Download" and nothing would happen, or the Launchpad would appear with "Waiting" below the (X) icon...and a day later still "Waiting".  Now, at least, it says Downloading and the progress bar is advancing!

    Hi All

also having this issue where the download gets to 995MB and fails.

I'm on my work network where downloading large files is not an issue.

I have tried different user accounts on my Mac and different Apple ids but still hit the issue.

I have tried going to the terminal and deleting the appstore dir from the TMPDIR as suggested

but I am still hitting the 995mb issue!

are there any other locations that may remember my previous attempts.

Come on Apple give us a clue in solving this

    Hi

This thread had got sidetracked.  The 995 issue is specific to BT accounts or using 2-wire or BT hubs.  Read the previous posts relevant to those specific criteria.  Your workaround will come from moving your Mac and downloading with a different router and ISP ( or the clunky workaround by bridging download to jump the 995 barrier)

Well I live in New Zealand so now where near a BT account or hub, although I am am originally from the UK! I have tried this both at work, which has a very good internet connection, and at home which is a different ISP to my work connection.

so still a little confused on the issue.

The time seems not to work at the Apple Downlads end - However, it is still downloading (hopefully).  Disable the sleep window and Give it a couple of hours and ignore the timer.  (It also restarts several times.)

    Hi All,

sorry for not responding earlier. Well I solved this in the end and it is certainly network dependant. As I said I had no joy going through my home or internal work network which is behind a firewall, although I have not had issues downloading large files such as ISO images etc before.

In the end I solved this by clearing the existing download attempt via the open $TMPDIR../c/ method and then using one of my works direct ADSL connections.

    Cheers

    Duncan
