mavericks download stuck at 995mb

Tried to upgrade to Mavericks on 27" iMac Late 2009; download stuck at 995MB. Tried rebooting , pausing/resuming, standing on my head, coffee etc to no avail. Worked for my MacBook Pro and my 21.5" iMac but not the 27". How do I blow away the part download and start again?

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

I have the same issue here but I'm stuck at 996MB. I was downloading the update at 13-15mbps and I get a pop-up saying "OS X Mavericks failed to download, Use the Purchases page to try again" once it hits 996MB. I have a fibre connection of 150mbps, and I can download huge files at >20mbps without any interruption.

What's going on here? A problem with the ISP?

We're trying to download it to a couple of our Macs in the office. Keeps getting stuck at 995MB/996MB. We're on a BT Business connection and it's quit out on us at the same point 2-3 times on each machine. Has anybody spoken to BT yet?

EDIT: Speed test gives us 14.4 so it's not our speed. Right near 900MB it says around 55 minutes left, so surely it can't be the speed, can it?

Ok, this is definitely an ISP issue. This can be solved by either using a VPN, or changing to a different ISP.

If you have no paid VPN service, use the free version of Hotspot Shield. Follow the steps below to set it up:

  1. Pause the download and exit App Store.
  2. Go to Activity Monitor and quit "storeagent" app, just to be sure.
  3. Download Hotspot Shield for Mac.
  4. Connect to it and launch App Store.
  5. Resume the download, now it should work.

At this point, you can either download the entire OS X Mavericks update over Hotspot Shield, or go back to using your own connection. I don't recommend downloading over Hotspot Shield because it's slow, but if you can wait and don't wish to get stuck again, feel free to do so; Hotspot Shield has no bandwidth limit.

To go back to downloading OS X Mavericks using your own connection:

  1. Pause the download and exit App Store.
  2. Go to Activity Monitor and quit "storeagent" app, just to be sure.
  3. Disconnect/exit Hotspot Shield.
  4. Launch App Store, resume the download.

If you get stuck again, follow the steps over. Note that killing the storeagent is optional, it's the process which handles App Store downloads. I just added that to ensure the download isn't going on in the background after it is paused, which is known to happen in some cases.

Enjoy your Mavericks 🙂

Hmmm, I don't even get that far!

My Mavericks icon says "downloading" but it isn't actuallying doing anything.

In the Purchases window it shows the OS with the "Download" option.

I click the button. Enter my iTunes password. And then nothing changes.

It seems to be stuck in a state where it thinks it is already in the process of downloading but nothing is actually happening.

Is there a file I can delete or something I can edit so the App Store will start over again? I don't see any new files in my Apps folder.
