Q: mavericks download stuck at 995mb

Tried to upgrade to Mavericks on 27" iMac Late 2009; download stuck at 995MB. Tried rebooting , pausing/resuming, standing on my head, coffee etc to no avail. Worked for my MacBook Pro and my 21.5" iMac but not the 27". How do I blow away the part download and start again?

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

Same issue using Time Warner Business Calss. Hotspot Shield did resolve the issue. Once I got to 1.2 gigs I turned off Hotspot and it completed.

As with many others, BT Business hangs at 995MB. Hotspot Shield solved it for me too. Many thanks indeed. Should someone (with an infinite amount of time on their hands) be taking this up with BT? It's absurd.

Has anyone tried this permanent workaround for 2GB file size download limitation described here for the BT 2wire 2700HGV/2701HV-C models using v6.3.9.63 firmware?

http://bt2700hgv.tripod.com/161.htm#How to fix 2GB file download problem

The workaround was intended for the older v6.3.9.41 firmware and apparently disables Content Filtering which is what is causing the problems with files bigger than 2 GBytes.

Yes, I have BT Business hub and that is exactly what happened to me. Worse, when I restarted my iMac it would only go to recovery mode. Fortunately I had a back up. Also, fortunately, I still had the Snow Leopard CD, so I installed that. Once again trying to install Mavericks stuck. So I downloaded it at home on my BT Home hub, where the broadband is so poor it took 7 hours!. Now copied the installer across to the iMac, and it works.

I recall now that the same problem with BT Business Hub occurred with a previous OS X download - either Lion or Mountain Lion.

Hey toddjb, you might want to try resetting your App Store.

    1. Quit App Store.
    2. Open Terminal.
    3. Execute this: defaults write com.apple.appstore ShowDebugMenu -bool true
    4. Launch App Store.
    5. At the Menu bar, there should be a "Debug".
    6. Click on that and press "Reset Application"
    7. Restart App Store.

Hey rydnx, thanks. This solved my problem too!

    Go to https://discussions.apple.com/message/23541255#23541255

    Problem solved.

It is either your ISP or may be your Router. BT 2Wire Gateway 2701HGV-C Router causes block at 996 MB.

As some of you stated this is not an ISP issue, but is caused by corrupted files in some of the CDN (Content Distribution Network) nodes of the CDN that apple uses for the distribution of Maverick. By switching ISP you will propably switch CDN node and your Mac will get a chance to continue to download the Maverick installation.

Most propable the installation is chopped into several smaller piecec and for some reason the part at 995 MB is corrupted on several nodes in the CDN.

As easy it is to blame this on the ISP or the CDN, the service (to download Maverick) is still provided by Apple and they are responsible for the quality of the service and if they cared enough to monitor the CDN they could easily invalidate the corrupted files on the CDN to restore the ability for their customers to upgrade their systems. In my case the CDN has been corrupted since the release of Maverick.

To bypass this problem, given you have the ability to do so, switching ISP for a few hundred MB of the download would make it possible for the download to continue past the currupted part of the download, after that you can swich back to your normal ISP and the download should finish.

The issue has been confirmed as specific to the ISP and/or their choice of router.  This can be bypassed by seeking another ISP.  (see the other discussions that relate to the very specific 995 block.  )  There is no evidence that this 995Mb issue is a CDN problem and to suggest so will only divert peoples efforts to workaround the documented issue.

I think this is (or can be) a BT business hub problem, I have a normal BT hub in the house and a BT Business hub in the office which is out in the Garden, we downloaded Mavericks okay on MBA and iMac in the house with no problems (other than slow download as we are in the middle of nowhere), we have 4 iMacs in the office and tried for days to download Mavericks on all of them but kept getting stuck at 995mb, having read the above posts I thought I would try bringing my iMac in the house tonight and it's sitting there doing its thing downloading like a dream. Thanks to those that have pointed out the issue of the BT business hub, I can say at least for us this is definitely the issue as both our lines are with BT and it's only the home hub that will allow the full download.

Hope this helps someone else because I know how frustrating this has been.

Thanks Stubbyman, Its good to have some side by side tests.  Mine is a BTBusiness Hub v2  2701C  and that is one of the routers that has the download file size limit.

    HI,

Is this thread still ongoing? I encounter the exact same problem, stuck around 995 MB. But I am in Singapore and using Cisco DPC 3925 as my broadband device. I connected directly using ethernet cable. I am using a broadband connection from a local ISP, not BT.

I have tried using the hotspot shield as recommended but it continues to download past the 5GB size. Currently at 8 GB and still ongoing. Should I continue using hotspot until the Maverick download is finished? Or should I just disconnect fron hotspot shield and switch to my normal broadband connection?

Note: I'm upgrading from Mac 10.6.8 so I don't have launchpad. I got that download information from Activity Monitor network tab.

    Many thanks.

You might want to consider starting a new discussion. Since this one is marked solved, less people are likely to look at it. You can link to this one.

After a huge and painful amount of research, trial and error, this suggestion which includes downloading the Hotspot software fixed the problem. Can't thank this man more for sorting it out.
