Oct 26, 2013 12:51 AM in response to drewexby drewex,Even after turning off Automatic graphics switching the problem repeated itself. Interestingly few mins after rebooting. Interestingly turning "Automatic graphics switching" on and off fixed it. Definitally something related with the GPU.

Oct 27, 2013 7:29 PM in response to drewexby bootareen,I have a 2.4 GHz 15" MBP as well. Today I was mass deleting hundreds of duplicates from Safari (which is another problem in itself) and the system would hang between deletes. I noticed artifacting where the app name should appear when hovering over dock icons. The Stack on the dock would also have a transparent background and some artifacting instead of the usual dark grey background.
Unchecking the automatic graphics switching fixed this. Even before Mavericks, I would notice this type of artifacting on window shadows when on integrated graphics. I already had my logic board replaced twice for the unrelated problem of the display turning off intermitently as posted by a previous poster.
I had similar graphics problems on the infamous 2008 Penryn Macbook Pro until it got replaced by this current machine. Maybe I can continue to ride the recall/warranty wave to the current Retina Macbook Pros

Oct 28, 2013 7:23 PM in response to drewexby itslow,Same issue here, too, with my Mid-2010 MBP 15". Switching off the graphics switching immediately cleared the artifacts.
This is an extremely annoying issue. Hopefully a fix is rolled out soon.

Oct 28, 2013 8:21 PM in response to itslowby drewex,Does anyone know if there is a way to report this discussion to apple. I bet they don't even read any of this

Oct 29, 2013 1:47 PM in response to drewexby ThreeD912,You can send a message to Apple about OS X here:
http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
They really do listen to feedback sent from there, although they rarely give you a direct response about it.

Oct 29, 2013 2:31 PM in response to ThreeD912by umparrothead,Adding my own experience from earlier today to the discussion. I encountered graphical corruption in the "shadowed" area around Quick Look windows, so I took a screen shot and submitted it as a bug to Apple. I've since added reference to this thread. If you use Apple Bug Reporter (free account required) at bugreport.apple.com the bug # is 15342703 to reference.

Oct 29, 2013 3:30 PM in response to umparrotheadby TREVA,Upgraded to Mavericks on my 2010 MBP 17" and all that is mentioned here chimes in exactly with what Iam too experiencing. Glitchy display interference basically.

Nov 1, 2013 3:47 AM in response to drewexby Cerebro,I replied to another thread. Thought I'd chime in here. I'm also a mid-2010 MacBook Pro owner. Upon waking from sleep, I noticed the weird "shadowing" along the sides of open windows. I also noticed some glitchyness in a few of my Dashboard widgets and that app names appeared to be "blurred out" when mousing over apps in the Dock. Toggling between graphics cards with gfxCardStatus, immediately, cleared up the issue. I've been running Mavericks for, almost, a week and this is the first time I've seen any issues.
Seriously, did a 2010 MBP owner run over an Apple employee's cat, or something? There's gotta be some reason why they don't like us.

Nov 1, 2013 5:24 AM in response to Cerebroby David Grover,Preferences>Energy Saver>(Turning off) Auto Graphics Switching solved it for me.
I now await fix to turn it on again!

Nov 2, 2013 1:41 PM in response to drewexby smurphy917,Same issue w/ my mid-2010 17" MBP.
I use the gfxCardStatus 3rd-party tool to switch between integrated and discrete GPUs and I definitely ONLY have the issue with the integrated card. If I switch to the integrated card--either manually or by allowing it to be selected automatically--I pretty much instantly get the wierd lines around my windows. The second I force the discrete GPU on, the glitch goes away. Very easily replicated.
Hopfully this is a simple fix that Apple can roll out in an OS X update. I defintely prefer to default to the lower-power graphics card. -
Nov 3, 2013 11:48 AM in response to drewexby Cerebro,After a few days with nothing to report, the graphics "glitched", again, this morning. Conditions were the same. It happened upon waking from sleep and when the integrated GPU was active. Toggling gfxCardStatus corrected it.
Send Apple feedback: http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
Here's the report that I submitted:
Hello,
I have a mid-2010 MacBook Pro (2.53 GHz i5 model). A week ago I upgraded my OS to Mavericks. On a couple of occasions, I have noticed graphics glitches. In my case, the glitches have occurred upon waking my computer from sleep and when the integrated GPU is active.
Please peruse the following support discussions to see the issues that myself and other users are having:
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5468958?start=0&tstart=0
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5491143?start=0&tstart=0
The issues I've seen are present in the screenshots that several users have posted. In my case, I have seen a corrupted "shadow" effect around the outside of open app or finder windows. Several Dashboard widgets have appeared to be glitchy with lines or "static" in the graphic. I have also noticed that the names of apps in the Dock appear as a "static"-like noise and are unreadable when moused over.
I use the menubar app called gfxCardStatus which allows for easy switching between the GPUs. If the graphics problem presents itself, simply, toggling between the GPUs is enough to correct it. Based on others who have posted in the support forums, disabling "Automatic Graphics Switching" in the Energy Saver preferences also appears to correct the problem.
Graphics glitches are a hindrance to anyone's workflow. I wanted to bring this to your attention (as others, surely, have). I'm hoping a fix is on the way. I appreciate your diligence in resolving this issue.
Thank you.

Nov 3, 2013 1:43 PM in response to Cerebroby David Grover,Thanks for this cerebro - but can't you also just switch off Graphics switching and rely on the dedicated graphics card also?
This has worked continulaly for me - the down side being greater battery use if not plugged in, but I can live with that until problem is solved.

Nov 6, 2013 9:05 AM in response to David_Nby coast57,I'm going to try this. My Display is flickering in lines that go from the top of the screen to the bottom, and my mouse is jumpy.
I've got a different MacBook Pro model (15-inch, Mid 2012, Processor 2.53 GHz Intel Core i5, Memory 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, Graphics Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024MB).
