This absolutely worked for me. I thought my mid 2010 MBP had bit the dust (AppleCare had just ran out) and kept getting these screwy graphics as previously posted. Thanks to the dude who posted this. my graphics haven't messed up since i unchecked this box.

Jan 2, 2014 7:56 PM in response to -TiD-by Dr.Cohen,Hey TiD
It seems to be only a temporary solution.
I also have a 2.66 i7 Mbp wich has developed to a state in wich it cannot even run any MAC OS due to the graphics card issue.
Apple is refusing to fix my computer here in Brazil...

Jan 20, 2014 1:48 PM in response to -TiD-by Jeff Jackson,I have 10.9.1 and my Early 2008 iMac just started doing this. I also don't see an option for turning on/off Auto Switching...

Your iMac doesn't have the dual graphics processing systems (integrated Intel and non-integrated NVidia) that the MacBook Pros had/have. As such, your iMac won't have that option.

Jan 22, 2014 1:42 AM in response to drewexby MicMac66,MID 2010 MBP 17" with Nvidia 330 Graphics
I also have the same problem - Run the Apple Hardware Test tool - result everything passed OK.
Reinstalled OS Snow Leopard - Still same problem will happend when external monitor is connected. Brought the Mac to the Apple Service Center - they tell me it is a disk failure - Changed with new disk - still problem remains same after new disk :-(......Cost me allready some for a NOFIX solution....
After sometime the Mac freezes up, and there are horisontal stripes on the screen - can still move the mousepointer - but everything else is not responding.... After reboot it will work Ok for a little while.
It seams like the problem is more likely to occure on a warm machine, and when a extranal monitor is attached.
I have now turned off the automatic graphics changing and have done the restting of PVram etc - and will see if the problem still remains - I hope the issue can be fixed soon.

Jan 22, 2014 11:26 AM in response to MicMac66by ThreeD912,There's 2 separate problems being described here. One is a 10.9 software issue which hasn't been fixed yet, and affects many different models. Not much you can do except to try and toggle the graphics on and off, and wait until Apple puts out another update.
There is a separate issue relating to graphics hardware on the 15" 2010 MacBook Pro models that already has a free repair program. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088
You should specifically show them that page, and ask for the special "Video System Test" specifically made for that model. If you went to them before but didn't request this test, they would have only ran the standard diagnostic tests which can't detect this issue. If you already paid for a repair, or were told there's nothing wrong previously, you might be able to still have your computer repaired under this program.

Jan 28, 2014 3:53 AM in response to ThreeD912by MicMac66,It is noted - But I have a 17" MBM Mid 2010 - anyone know if thes is also covered by the TS4088 - Inside should be using the same affected Nvidia 330 Graphics card - So if it has same symptoms and errors it .... I guess the same test should be run with this one?

these has to be software. The problem is the automatic switch. Later But the if the problem is there.

Mac OS XApple DID have a recall for the 15" mid-2010 machines -> http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US.
Unfortunately, not all mid-2010 owners knew about the recall until after the three year after purchase time was up. It's not a problem with which version of OS X you're running - it's a hardware problem that many users, regardless of which version of OS X, have had or are now having.
If you take in a copy of the article cited above, you may get lucky and find a sympathetic manager who will do the logic board replacement free. Or, if you're in the US, you can always ask for a flat-rate depot repair ($310). That may be your best bet.

May 17, 2014 3:13 PM in response to clintonfrombirminghamby joaomalveiro,My MBP 15" mid 2010 mainboard has been replaced twice due to graphic issues. Now it's better than was before but i'm still experiencing freezes once in a while. Here im Portugal we can't be assisted directly by Apple, i've contacted Apple's Europe department based in Ireland and they refused to replace my faulty device. I had send this computer for repair more than 5 times and the 3rd party company that represents Apple here in Portugal have send it back to me saying that they coudn't reproduce any of the issues i reported. That's what you get when Apple hire other companies to do their job.
