Q: How do I get audio unit instruments to work in new Garageband?

I've updated to the new Garageband 10 and I can't for the life of me get audio unit instruments to work.  How do I do this?

MacBook pro, Mac OS X (10.6.6)

Thanks to all of you. I think leonieDF and sarmoung have brought the solution. Unfourtunatly my AU-PlugIns are 32bit. What a pitty. Thanks to addazerty I don't need to get upset, as the old Garageband app was still kept in the Applications folder.

Hoopefully my AU-PlugIns will be updated.

Good one Sarmoung. Obviously the interface designers were trying to utilize real estate but some things got lost in translation. I have this gut feeling that GB10 will be a long-term easter egg hunt-fest.

    Thanks

Just to clarify somrething somebody said here - or seek clarifaction if I'm wrong.

Somebody mentioned 32 bit plugs not working due to Mavericks. AFAIK this is false - 32 bit plugs won't work in GB or LPX because Apple made it so, not because of Mevericks per se. Ableton Live, for example, has 32 bit version as well as 64 bit and in the 32 bit version, 32 bit plugs will work.

Or am I totally wrong and does Mevericks not allow 32 bit Ableton Live to run?

Much thanks, almost all my AU's I have to reinstall, it is apparent that Apple doesn't want you to use 3rd party instruments, on the new app they also charge $5 for additional instruments and loops, whether or not they included the old jam packs I'm not sure, will check it out more tonight.  I hope someone makes your post a sticky because I'm sure thousands of others will want to keep their old Garageband around for now.

There's other DAWS out there including open source so all is not lost, and I can run two windows because the new Garageband does have some nice features, and the layout is slightly better.

I had to reinstall the old version of GB from from Time machine so I could still use PianoTeq, Omnisphere and a few others to record and use them,,,Omnisphere is not a stand alone and needs a host. bummer!!

leonie -- Are you sure these images you're showing are from GarageBand 10?? I'm not seeing the same thing in the preferences (no choice for enabling AUs) nor the Smart Controls.

I'd love it if someone could post the exact step-by-step to get to the Smart Controls. You say under "View menu" but I have no View menu.

Naturally, searching "Smart Controls" in the help is useless.....

    ================

Disregard the above... I just found out that I have GB '11. I have no idea why, since I just bought this brand-new MacBook Pro last week. Stupidly *assumed* it would have GB10 on it, since it's got Mavericks. UGH....

Yes, my screenshots are for GarageBand 10. Easily to recognize by everything being Black in Black.

I just found out that I have GB '11.

If you have GarageBand '11 you should be able to upgrade for free to GarageBand '10 from the App Store. GarageBand 10.0 is a free purchase, not an update. You have to go to the "featured" page and not to the "Updates" page at the AppStore.

Man! I downloaded the magical 8-bit.component and am trying like **** to get it to work but can't seem to find the proper folder to place it in. I seem to understand everything else.

Is the user's library different from the main library? It's not showing up in my user folder but does when I select one of the apple AU instruments and hit "load"

How to make it show up?

I really want this to work. Garageband can take a hike otherwise.

    ADM

(edit: I got the library folder to show up in my home folder, but still can't get the AUinstrument to show up.)

Can you only use 4 audio units at one time, because in the old version of GB I was using you could use at least 6 Im sure?
