imovie 9.0.9 still on Mac after upgrade

I have updated my Mac to Mavericks and installed all the updates.

I have iMovie but I also have an iMovie 9.0.9 folder with the old program in it (this is 1.32 Gb) Can I delete this application and folder?

All the previous imovie event and project folders are there as well - iMovie 10 imports all your existing events and projects into a new library specifically for iMovie 10, rather than converting them in-situ. This new library is akin to the iTunes library - you can see the contents with "Show Package Contents" - rather than it being plain old folders.

I guess because iMove 10 is a big UI change from the previous version, Apple are being polite and allowing users to revert back to the old version without having to reinstall and re-extract files - if they don't like or have issues with the new iMovie 10.

That said, if like me you have a large amount of iMovie content, creating a brand new copy of all this media in this way means I now have two copies (2 x 250GB!) on disk - all now hitting my Time Machine devices!

Anticipating this, Apple also provide a tip on removing the iMovie 9 folders at your leisure - here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5917

As in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5917 you can safely remove the folders if you no longer want to access your movie media using versions of iMovie prior to iMovie 10.0.

As you say you have not used iMovie before and thus it is reasonable to assume you have no movie media to access in those folders, then no harm should befall your system by following the tip above.

Thanks for your darts, folks, but for crying out loud: how hard can it be to answer Keith's rather simple question? He asked whether it's possible to delete the old iMovie app, not the old projects. I'd like to know that too.

In addition to Keith: Why is the old app not replaced or deleted by the new one, after the upgrade? Do I need to be wary of that? Does the new app need the old app to run? The old app is 1 GB of data--so it's worthwhile to get rid of.

I'm assuming the answer is rather binary--either yes or no.
