Nov 2, 2013 6:50 AM in response to wendyfromhoustonby locksoft,I think it's time to clear things a bit.
Some users have iTunes back managing books with the procedure, some (like me) can't get the "Books" section back, even if books are there and show when an iDevice is connected.
I tried tons of things, spent the last 2 hours deserving my place in h-e-l-l (lol, it was censured) and still nobody showed an answer.
Now my question is: what iTunes version you have? I've the 1.11.2 and books are not showing. And you?
Because I think that may be the problem.

Nov 2, 2013 6:58 AM in response to locksoftby Andy Epprecht,iTunes 11.1.2 here ... followed exactly my steps 1) - 8) posted in this thread in that very sequence with no hassle and all works well ever since.

Nov 2, 2013 7:00 AM in response to Andy Epprechtby locksoft,I did exactly the same.
first time I started iTunes it had the books tab but it loaded a page where it said they were moved. Then books disappeared and never returned.
I already removed iBooks with Appremover, same for the service.
I'm really out of ideas now.

Nov 2, 2013 7:51 AM in response to StoneSoupby Julian Bashir,StoneSoup,
I did what you said, and was able to load the epub from Finder using Adobe. However, when I try to click on the epub within iTunes, it tells me "This book cannot be viewed with this computer." Is there a separate way to get it so that I can launch Adobe to read the epub from within iTunes itself? Like the way Preview opens up when I click on a PDF within iTunes.

No, setting file opening defaults in Finder apply at the operating system level. Individual programs can set their own file handling defaults that override Finder defaults. iTunes has taken that approach.

Nov 2, 2013 3:20 PM in response to bluevoiceby locksoft,Ok, I guess I've finally found a solution for all those can't have the books category reappearing in iTunes:
I have a second partition, with Mavericks installed as well (a sort of emergency in case main partition have problems). Well, Mavericks sees applications even on other partitions. So, once deleted iBooks.app on the second partition too, "books" reappeared for magic.
Hope this will solve your problem too.

Nov 2, 2013 9:40 PM in response to StoneSoupby wendyfromhouston,Thank you so much.... Steven, Andy, Kevin... and everyone else..
I love this group... Funny enough I have gotten so much better and knowledgable tech support for
Apple products from this group then over 20 hours on the tech support with Apple..
I read in another line going somewhere about a program called Marvin, I was just wondering if anyone knows anything about it ? I really hate to think I am at the total mercy of Apple for the availability to read my books on my ipads..

Nov 3, 2013 4:39 AM in response to Garindanby Arnoud NL,Totally agree with everything said here. Ridiculous that we need to start developing "Microsoft-like" workarounds. A few hours ago I posted a summary of my experience migrating to iBooks including a summary of what needs to change. Guess what? Post deleted by Apple. At least it tells me that they are taking this seriously.
