Q: Mavericks - Dock not showing on all screens?

One of the marquee features of OS X 10.9 is that the dock is now present on all screens ( http://www.apple.com/osx/whats-new/#multiple-displays ).

That doesn't seem to be the case for me.  I have a mid-2011 27" iMac with two external monitors; the dock only shows on what was designated as the main monitor under OS X 10.8, the center one.  The other two displays don't ever show the dock, even if that's the active monitor.

Doing a "killall Dock" in Terminal doesn't fix the issue and neither does restarting the computer.

Anyone experiencing something similar or have a solution?

The "pushing down" trick worked for me, but it sure doesn't seem like the way it's supposed to work.  Thanks for the tip, in any case.

The extra bump was added for a pre-release candidate of Mountain Lion. I can't remember why, but the feature was subsequently removed. So, I think they intended it to work that way, but not certain.

It's obviously been programmed by a guy using a trackpad.. it seems to be more of a 'hidden' gesture as no clicking is required when you attempt to swipe down out the bottom of the screen - and there is no mention of it in System Preferences > Trackpad

I kept accidentally summoning the dock whilst moving screens with the trackpad - I caught the edge of my larger screen and the mouse moved down whilst still on the smaller screen moving my dock there.

It's the kind of thing that realy needs a keyboard shortcut for non-trackpad users.

    Cheers'n

Make sure to read Barney-15E's original post, it sorted me out.

Make sure to double bump the bottom of the screen. I like it that way. Ever been in iMovie and triggered the dock trying to use the buttons?

Yes, I had this problem as well and your solution works for me as well.  You can't just leave your cursor at the bottom of the screen, but continue to drag it as if you are trying to move passed the bottom edge of the monitor. Works every single time I do it now!

    Thanks mklaman! That worked.

Seems there are two problems in this thread; one where folks might be in full screen mode and need the "double bump" and another where the dock is mysteriously travelling to another space or display and won't come back.

I had the second problem with a brand new 13" macbook pro (w/ updated mavericks) and lost the dock.  Nothing would bring it back, and it wasn't in any of the other "spaces" (I don't use spaces at all unless it is by accident).

Following mklaman's advice and turning off "displays have separate spaces" returned the dock.

...but I still wonder if there's a bug causing the dock to travel away somehow, even when not intentionally using other spaces, and not using separate displays...

Like many here I am having difficulty with the dock moving to my active display (which really just means that I'm annoyed i have to move my mouse down even more). The trick of moving the mouse down further and further again works great with mice but what about tablet displays? I am using a Cintiq and cannot pull up the dock because I cannot move my pen further down than the live area of the monitor. I then have to grab my mouse and move further down to the dock ...just an annoyance really.

    Anyone have a possible solution?

As I had a similiar problem I found that if the botttom lines of the two screens are lined up (NOT the upper) it works !! Just give it a try..

SOLUTION: The feature does work but with a little patience and not very smooth all the time. And yes... it is available only in one display at a time.

Let's say D1 represents the non-MacBook (External monitor) and D2, your macBook display. Let's say currently you see the dock on D1. To bring the dock up on D2, you need to hit the bottom of D2 and wait for almost 1-2 seconds and the dock will appear (If you are trying this feature for the first time, then you may have to wait a bit longer).

Once it appears on D2, you will notice it vanishing from D1. You need to repeat what you did in D2 to make the dock appear in D1 again.

The feature works only when you keep the dock position "Bottom" (in System Preferences -> Dock).

    Cheers

    Ravi

I have this kind of Display arrangement https://www.dropbox.com/s/fhhf4kwk9paa1to/Screenshot%202013-12-09%2015.05.38.png

I really cant any way to make the dock appear.  Is there option to make Dock appear all time in the external displays?

Did you read j2n's post on page 4? You apparently have to use the area where the screens don't overlap.

However, I tried a vertical arrangement and didn't seem to get it to work.

yes i read that, but no help for me. This is really annoing. When i head Mac has finally full support for the external displays, then i was glad but now i'm frustrated to deal this bug or issue.
