I get stuck in the INS/OVR trap running Microsoft Visual Studio in a VM on my Mac. Here is how to switch it. On the keypad the "clear" key is the "num lock" key in Windows. Toggle out of num lock mode, and the "0" (zero) key on the keypad is the INS/OVR toggle.

The doument on the link suggested fn+enter, which is interesting because of course there isn't an enter key on a mac, but helpfully in the same document it informs that for 'enter' use 'return' on the mac. Anyway it doesn't work, has anyone got any other suggestions ? Can't believe that you don't get an insert/overwrite option on a mac - fairly basic for anyone who does a lot of document writing !

Help ???

In the System/Keyborard preference pane uncheck this checkbox and try again.

The key circled on my previous screens shot is the forward delete. With the check box unchecked the forward delete key delete forward and the Delete key will also if the Fn key is held down.
