MacBook Pro (mid 2007) freezes after upgrade to Mavericks

Hello,

After the upgrade to Mavericks my MacBook Pro (mid 2007) freezes after a couple of minutes of usage - after successful install and the use of some apps. Not bad enough the system is now always crashing if I try to boot. PM reset didn't help. Booting from the restore partition was possible, but I decided to go back to a working backup of 10.8.4 made a minute before I tried to upgrade. Why 10.8.4? Because 10.8.5 causes the strange problem that the Mac freezes after wake up from sleep.

Any suggestions?

Anyone else having this problem?

Kind regards

Hi Desruptor,

Both 10.8.5 and Mavericks cause my machine to freeze a few seconds after the finder starts up. 10.8.4 works fine. I have tried virgin installs, resetting the PRAM, resetting the SMC, all to no avail. I took my computer to the Genius Bar and they ran diagnostics and the computer checks ok fine.

Some say that leaving the ethernet cable unconnected helps, but that did not help for me.

I am hoping that Apple fixes this software issue soon.

I did a clean install of mavericks on my MBP (mid 2007) and still it freezes at arbitary points. The very first time when it booted up it worked for longer and when I started to apply updates from app store, it froze. Successive boots froze much early, like within few seconds of booting.

I am going to check this by booting in safe mode. I am losing hope with mavericks on my MBP (mid 2007) and will switch back to snow leopard (10.6.8) which was working seemless.

I checked so many things, based on other posts to make sure if my MBP is really Mid 2007. IT IS.

Booting in 'Safe Mode' too, froze after few mins.. Others are advising me to check the console for any symptoms. I got the console open once, but once it freezes, mouse pointer doesn't move and I can't scroll the console messages.

Mavericks killed my MBP and after a day or two, I will switch back to Snow Leopard which was never a problem. I don't have any recovery disks for getting Snow Leopard back. Looks like I have to buy a new copy for $20.

Keep trying. Same thing happend to me. Connect the ethernet cable and try to get as far to get Wi-Fi enabled. It might help. When you do, unplug ethernet and possibily disable ethernet.

For me, few times it froze immediately after booting. Sometimes it took time to freeze and was able to enable wi-fi. I kept trying with ethernet cable on and off. I once wi-fi enabled, I disabled ethernet, just to be safe and Macbook is working like a charm ever since.

Good luck and hopefully you'll get lucky soon.

Same issue, mid 2007 macbookpro. Computer is fine since windows 7 (bootcamp) boots perfectly! And I remember turning off the wifi. Ill try then to start till wifi activation to see what happens...

This happened after mountain lion to maverick update. Then I did a clean install, and same issue after 1 day......
