According to the App Store upgrading Aperture from V3.4.5 to V3.5 is going to cost £54.99.
I thought from all that I had read on other Mac websites that this was a free upgrade?
It is a free update. Just log in to your account on the MAS before trying to upgrade. Aperture should appear as an update, if you had purchased it through MAS.
What if I didn't buy my Apeture 3 from app store? Does it mean I have to pay?
Oh! Aperture was bought in disk form (boxed) then upgraded a few times not as a purchased download from the App Store.
On looking around I get the impression that an upgrade may be obtainable as a download via apple support downloads - I hope.

It should be there. You need to use the Software Update menu item from the Apple menu to go from 3.4.5 to 3.5. Once you have 3.5 is will show in the Mac App Store even though you bought it on DVD originally.
Sometimes it helps to reload the "Updates" tab of the AppStore with he key combination ⌘R .
Right, that brings up Mac App Store app but I have no such option to upgrade from there after relogin and reload.
I'm not sure if any correlation between MAS and my location copy.
I would think MAS simply just couldn't find my purchase history. 😐
I did not buy from the MAS, but could get the upgrade to 3.5 just the same.

If you bought Aperture from the MAS, it should show on the "Purchased" page. And also appear on the "Updates" page. It may take a while.
Are you signed in with the AppleID that you used to buy Aperture?
And is Aperture still installed in your Applications folder? You did not move it to a subfolder or rename it?
May have chance that I used a different Apple ID to register my Aperture long time ago and that's not the same as the ID I'm using....
On the other hand, I just removed my local Aperture, reinstalled again with DVD.
It appeared 3.4.5 update from MAS but not 3.5...
Now I know at least I can update through MAS. But I have no idea why I can't get 3.5 directly
Have you already upgraded to 10.9 (Mavericks)? The 3.5 will only be offered if you are running Mavericks?

I have mavericks installed. Tried the command r which made it look again but still no sign of an update to 3.5
I've tried the login with my id but no joy
