Aug 9, 2014 10:04 PM in response to Philly_Phanby Dave Everhart1,W-T-F does it matter how much effort it took to compose a post?
Oh...right...it matters, so that you can be a snarky know-it-all, presuming that I don't take care of my possessions in the first place, and contributing nothing to the discussion. You must suffer from TLDR disease, a common malady in today's world of humans bred for lilliputian attention spans.
I've had the same drum kit since 1972, number of vintage Fender guitars since a few years after that, and a couple of decades' worth of expensive recording studio gear. My late grandfather's entire tool collection, and he died in '68. Oh, and my photography studio gear. My Apple products, I take care of and make them last, just like the aforementioned possessions.
A person, determined to get into my space, did so and relieved me of some things. This has nothing to do with how I take care of them.
Perhaps you should take care of your approach to people who, on an internet forum, presented a discussion viewpoint without insulting anyone in the forum. If you put as much effort into pleasantly participating in a discussion (instead of perpetuating the 'snotty Apple fanboy' idiom) as I did typing my post, none of this would be warranted.
You're just as fallible as the next guy. Learn that. Soon. You'll be much happier in the end run.
And when someone breaks into your space and takes something of yours, remember your post, here.

Aug 9, 2014 10:08 PM in response to Csound1by Dave Everhart1,"Your s**t is your responsibility, keep that in mind."
Yeah, I keep it in mind every day, thanks. However, that is irrelevant to a situation involving burglary.

Aug 10, 2014 2:39 AM in response to Dave Everhart1by Csound1,Insurance is the sensible way to deal with this, I am sure that you would have had coverage on such valuable items and now they are gone recovery is unlikely. At least insurance will help cover the loss.

So who's responsibility is your stuff then?

Aug 10, 2014 10:46 AM in response to Csound1by pete deville,The dude is rightfully ticked off that some jack*** stole his stuff. Give him a break. Some years ago someone stole a certain valuable electronics item out of my car. It was useless to them without the associated serial number paired transmitter. I asked the manufacturer if they could flag an incoming request for a replacement transmitter associated with that serial number. They very rudely wrote back that they are not in the business to recover stolen items.. Never bought another item from that small exclusive electronics firm - it was such a simple request. On the other hand people pull a lot of crap due to divorce situations and what not so how are companies supposed to sort out legitimate requests from bogus requests?

Aug 13, 2014 6:39 AM in response to Klaidas 175by Csound1,Activation lock is not a secret, and it is about to become law (in the USA first) and Apple are the first manufacturer to fit it (Samsung are the second).
So get used to it, and don't hand over cash to some guy you met in a mall, it usually turns out bad.
Go to the police, give them a copy of the ad. Why let him get away without even trying to help, he'll just do it again.

Aug 13, 2014 7:31 AM in response to Klaidas 175by caspar35,You bought this from somebody you met in a shopping centre after you met them online and you honestly think Apple is responsible for your problem? Apple did not even get the money, so how do they profit?
Clue: The answer is that the owner of this iPad - who I will guess had it stolen from them - knows their property can not be used and the information in it can not be accessed. They will be glad they spent the money. Insurance companies will decide iPads and iPhones are at reduced risk of being stolen. You will live to regret your gullibility. Keep sending the cheques to that Nigerian Prince, they need your help urgently.

It's not your property. You bought a stolen iPad.
