I must say that I am pretty impressed by Apple's attempt to protect their customers' devices from the thieves and the would be thieves, although it does not always work perfectly. I encourage Apple to include in some non-removable chip the GPS with precision of up to 50cm radius so that even if the device is not connected to the internet it can still be located via technologies like the gps.
Are you willing to pay the extra $15,000-$25,000 per device for this accuracy?
This is in addition to having an iPhone the size of a shoebox...

In the past 18 months I have lost lots of these Apple devices to thieves with vital personal info dating 2009.
Apple can only do so much. If you have had so many devices stolen, then your home security may well be worth updating. As yet Apple do not make an iWatchdog.

Dec 23, 2014 11:25 AM in response to petermac87by mthobim, thieves don't steal from home alone and none of mine were stolen from my
home, thanks for your view, albeit its not addressing the innovative way
that Apple could possible do within their devices to improve on the already
existing security features.

Then you should be especially pleased that Apple has provided you with a mechanism that protects your personal information. You do take advantage of that mechanism, don't you?

OK then update your all round security or tie the iDevice around your neck with a chain.
Merry Christmas

Dec 23, 2014 11:41 AM in response to Chris CAby mthobim,Its not as though the Technolgy to be used is non existing. All their
devices already use the gps it just that its not included in such a way
that it enhances the security that already exists in a manner that I
alluded to. Besides am sure that the initial costs may be high yet in not
so long a period the same devices with the same or better security would
see their prices drop to affordable levels by a good part of many
communities. One innovative idea has a tendency to give rise to a better
one in an ongoing process of technological advancement. Imagine if all
those who pioneered all forms of technological advancement gave up at the
thought of affordability issues, the current state of technology would not
have been riched at all.

Dec 23, 2014 12:36 PM in response to mthobimby petermac87,lol, it's not personal. I just enjoy a good laugh around Christmas when someone suggests the price of a phone go up 1000% because someone else has a bad habit of getting theirs stolen. Should be a very popular decision.
Merry Christmas

Yes, I understand.
But the technology to get it to within 50cm will cost you at least $15k-$20 and your device will be at least the size of a shoebox.

That's a lot of cash just to satisfy someone that loses "lots" of iPads. It would be a lot less expensive to provide lessons on keeping track of possessions.

In the world of security, it's beneficial if you can remember SOMETHING.

created a new apple id
but seriously if i like give it to them( the shop or something ) and they unlock it or if the guy from apple unlock it
But seriously, no one can help you unlock it without you knowing you AppleiD & password.
Contact AppleID account security...

I completely sympathize with the OP on this issue. This is a stupid and asinine move on apple's part. Ponder over this scenario. A company buys an ipad and provides it to one of its employees, that employee configures this feature with their personal apple id and password. Employee parts with company and company has no way whatsoever of contacting this person and now has a brick that THEY paid for. I am currently in this scenario and IT IS RIDICULOUS!! There is absoluetly no excuse for a feature like this.
Every company that I worked for would hold off paying the last paycheck until all company property was accounted for. To do otherwise is inviting bankruptcy.
