Q: How can I bypass the previous owners password on my iPad?

I bought a second hand iPad 4th gen the other day. It looked to be ready for me to set up the iPad, but when I got homw to try it, there was a screen saying, "This iPad is currently linked to an Apple ID (S*****@hotmail.com). Sign in with the Apple ID that was used to set up this iPad." So my question is, how can I get by this? I don't have the sellers information, so I can't contact him.

No, it does not work. Nothing will except entering the correct password.

My nephew bought iPad 2, did not need any more as he purchased update. Some time later, he gave it to my dad and set it up for him. A new toy for him at age 82, he filled up 16gb in no time with pictures and songs. Now, not only it was very slow. but he could not connect to iCloud. None of the family members can remember any passwords used. I got hold of the unit to reformat but now getting stuck. It's not stolen, not sold / purchased ... just passed to another member of the family but no one knows any of the passwords used. So what next, All you who always think of theft and security, there is something as forgetting the details! By the way, we did visit Apple store whose response was, "iPad 2 is now 'old and out-dated, get a new one!" Should have gotten Samsung instead!
Does anyone have any idea how to bypass AppleID or k*******@iCloud.com password? Please?

Are you for real?  There have been many posts from me and others describing exactly how to resolve situations like yours.  Follow the given advice and your situation will be resolved.

By the way, I don't believe your story about your trip to the Apple Store.  Recently, they helped me out with my 6-year old original iPad.

Just so you know it is a legal requirement in the state of California and other states to have a locking mechanism on their mobile devices that cannot be bypassed by secondary users. Keep up with the tech news. It is too bad that people steal things which necessitates these things. Such a locking mechanism has come or will soon come to Andriod devices.

Unfortunately, if they allowed you to do it, then they would have to allow everyone to bypass Activation Lock. Then the world would be one big blackmarket for devices. Sadly it is a matter of let the buyer beware. Personally I would rather not purchase an iDevice than take a risk at a swap meet or flea market. That is why most buy them from reputable dealers.

Sorry, but there is nothing you can do without the previous owners password. In fact you may even be in possession of stolen property.

I am following all these people with the same problem although the ipad is mine and always has been.  We restored it back to factory settings and it is asking for the activation code and password which I can't remember.  So I symathise with these people.  I cant remember my password for the life of me!

I'm fairly certain that this version of the problem has been addressed multiple times in this thread. If you know your Apple ID, but not your password, then all you have to do is to sign into Manage your Apple ID: Apple - My Apple ID and click on Reset Password. If you do not remember the answers to the Security Questions, then you need to contact Apple Support to have them reset:

    ACCOUNT SECURITY CONTACT

The Activation Lock does not prevent a legitimate first owner from accessing their device. It is intended to prevent thieves from doing so.

I have tried this but it doesn't work.

I have changed my apple ID email address and password a long time ago and so it doesn't work.

Well that is an entirely different issue altogether. Did you change the ID on the existing Apple account, or did you set up a brand new Apple ID?

I think I changed it on the existing apple account but I have deleted the old email address from my apple ID.  So the only email address in my apple ID is the current one.  Also the old email address is no longer in use and I cant access it.

Right, but if you simply changed the email address on your existing Apple ID, then you need to do the following:

    1.     Go to Manage your Apple ID and log in with your current Apple ID. EDIT the ID back to the old email address. This is temporary. Do NOT verify it, do NOT change the password: Apple - My Apple ID

    2.     On the screen that is showing your old Apple ID and asking for your password, type in your current Apple ID password

    3.     Once you have successfully restored your device, go to Settings>iCloud to see what Apple ID is signed in to iCloud. If it is the old ID, then scroll to the bottom and sign out using the current Apple ID password. If it is the current Apple ID, you do not need to do anything further here.

    4.     Go back to Manage your Apple ID, sign in with the old ID and the current password, and EDIT the ID back to the new one. You may have to verify it again.

    5.     If you had to sign your old ID out of iCloud in step 3, then sign in your new Apple ID now.

    Cheers,

    Hi Gail,

I tried that and it has not worked.  I changed the email on my apple ID back to my old apple ID email address and did not verify it.

On the ipad I went to the set up and went through, Hello, Country, language, wifi settings till I get to Activation code.

It says (Incorrect Apple ID (my old email address) cannot be used to unlock this ipad.?

Apple will remove the lock if AND ONLY IF the owner provides a government photo ID and incontrovertible proof (i.e., proof that will hold up in court) that he/she is the owner.  This proof must be trackable back to the original owner.

If an Apple Store is convenient, make an appointment with the resident "Genius."  Otherwise, you must ship the device to Apple.  To make arrangements, call 800-275-2273 in the U.S.A. and I think Canada.
