Nov 4, 2013 8:02 AM in response to jbhenryby JAZUBA,I just downloaded Maverick and had the same problem. I called Apple and they were very helpful. The problem is that you now have the new and old versions of Pages on your computer. You need to drag the old version to the trash and everything should work.

Nov 4, 2013 10:18 AM in response to jbhenryby EEaudio08,Yeah, I would definitely not suggest to delete the old app in order for your documents to work again. That doesn't make any sense.

Nov 14, 2013 8:26 PM in response to jbhenryby ottawamacman,Pages 5 does not open any of my Pages 3 documents. Based on this thread, I will not delete Pages 3 for fear of losing all my old docs. I have asked Apple for a refund and an apology for such a poor product.

Nov 14, 2013 10:46 PM in response to AlexaLynnby PeterBreis0807,You should still have Pages '09 in your Applications/iWork folder.
Use that and trash or archive Pages 5.

Mar 11, 2014 10:58 AM in response to PeterBreis0807by horn,I opened my old pages document in preview, copied the text and dropped it in a new pages file. Not a great fix but it beats starting over.

Aug 20, 2014 7:28 PM in response to jbhenryby Magnaza,Open document with Pages 3.0, select all, copy. Open Pages 5.0, create new document, paste, save. Sorry if you , like me, have 200 documents to edit...

Aug 20, 2014 7:41 PM in response to Magnazaby PeterBreis0807,Why would you need to edit 200 documents you obviously have not used in years?
Also why would you not use File > Export > Word? Something that is probably scriptable.
Object lesson btw, don't hold valuable documents in proprietary file formats.

Sep 22, 2015 6:24 PM in response to jbhenryby Beachbum33,What a joke, Apple! Another software "downgrade". Are you kidding me? A file I saved a month ago is no longer useable because of another pointless software "upgrade" that adds NOTHING in terms of user functionality? If Steve Jobs were alive today, heads would roll in Cupertino.

Sep 23, 2015 4:07 AM in response to Beachbum33by VikingOSX,You are not talking to Apple here, but instead, just other users like yourself that fully understand the state of Apple word processing without a reminder. What deceased people would do if they were alive is pure conjecture.
LibreOffice v5 (requires Mountain Lion or later) has support for iWork '09 or earlier Pages, Numbers, and Keynote document formats. It may or may not open these documents (depending on document complexity, and present support in LibreOffice). It will also open ClarisWorks/AppleWorks v5/v6 documents from Mac, and Windows. Your mileage will vary.
