Can I revert back to and continue using the old Numbers 09? I will find another spread sheet program that can sort specific ranges quickly and efficiently if I have to. This formula and extra column or row thing seems very inefficient and complicated.

    Hi Woodsmen,

Can I revert back to and continue using the old Numbers 09?

Look for a folder called iWork '09 inside your Applications folder. Numbers '09 will be there if you haven't deleted it. You can run both versions of Numbers at the same time. Just be sure which version is active before saving an old document.

    Regards,

    Ian.

You won't be able to revert your spreadsheets though unless you have a backup.

I am reverting to 09. I don't like when Apple releases beta versions like they have with a lot of new applications for the first few versions. They take away functions, then never get around to adding them back until literally years later.

Besides this horrible downgrade in functionality, Numbers 3.0 also lacks a formula bar. They tried to make the work flow easier by dealing with formulas differently, which for some people it might be, but some of us expect things in certain places. We need the option.

Desktop users shouldn't be at the mercy of some iOS application, where most people just use it to view and not do hardcore work.

Obviously keeping backups is best but your statement may not be *entirely* correct, Fix the Bugs Please.

I think I've used a spreadsheet before. I understand how to export it.

You cannot revert it without a backup. You will have to redo potentially thousands of sorting rules again. It could take you months if you are a CPA. Of course, I don't know any CPA's who use numbers (plenty still use Lotus123), and this is the exact reason, bs version downgrades.

I am fixing my accounting sheets now, and it is proving impossible to regain the formatting on one sheet I didn't have a backup. Of course I can reinput, and reconcile from the the last working backup 2 months ago, but I am stubborn, and that would still take a few hours.

I made an automator script that works with the logic. It's a huge pita.

Very frustrating. I am your stock basic user, and the most core functionality was eliminated for no reason. If someone doesn't need multi level sorting, then they don't really need a spreadsheet program, pages will work just fine for graphic applications, and basic data.

Also, why can't you filter things by ascending/descending? Or Date by Quarter? There's no way to get the subtotals now in 3.0. Thankfully it is all sorted in the 2.x version, but all of this was needless. This is worse than FCPx not letting you setup a custom resolution.

I rely on multi-level sorting of selected rows at every month end. I can't believe Apple removed that functionality. It has turned a task that was simple and instant into a slow, cumbersome, manual PITA. I'm also not happy with the removal of the formula bar. Heading off to App Store to leave a negative review now, just like I've had to with Pages. I'm really disappointed because I expected Apple to get better over time, not worse.

    Brandon,

In case you missed it Apple has already announced in this support document that multi-column and range sort will be restored in upcoming releases in the coming months.

Let's hope they keep developing iWork.  They've done a great job finally getting it to work cross-platform.

    @SGIII,

Many thanks for the heads-up on that. Thank God the thing most broken is one that's on their list to fix. Shame they didn't get it right instead of rushing a half-broken product to market though. That's normally Google's modus operandi, not Apple's.

BTW, here's the correct link to the support document: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6049

    Cheers, BW

    Hi BW,

Thanks for the heads up on the bad link! Sorry about that.  Agree that sorting was a particularly bad miss.  Keep our fingers crossed that fixes come reasonably quickly.

Disasterous donwgrade-Numbers now dumbed down-It would have made a lot more sense NOT to release the halfbaked version until it was at least as functional as the prior release.

No longer able to  Categorize and subtotal on a colum:  Work around involves multiple steps including sorting , adding multiple contidional sumif statements and then manually hiding rows and colums

The dynamic print view is gone- formatting the printout is now a big pain.

    Are you listening Apple?

    Hi lefkos,

We are fellow users here. This will work better if you want Apple to hear what you have to say:

Reorganize collumn and sort ascending while effectively will reorganize a spreadsheet only the 09 numbers will reorganize within collumns [I haven't tried rows] leaving the rest of the collumn unchanged when you first select the specific cells requiring reorganization. I'm actually think I've taken way too long putting of becoming familiar with Access. I would benefit from having the advantage of having individual cells like to new spreadsheets as required; like a phone book page that allows you to list all numbers to individual particulars to allow you to resource everyone with the same last name or street in the their address.

You can still certainly export to the older version of numbers I just moments ago had to.

Sorting only some rows in a column is easy in Excel and Numbers 2.3, but not so easy in Access. If you have taken some care to organize your data efficiently, it should be rarely if ever necessary.

This is easy to do in Numbers 3.0 with filters.
