Nov 8, 2013 9:50 AM in response to aringa9by PKRoss,To get the correct resolution you need a mini display port -> display port cable such as the link to the one below. With that you can get the 2560X1440 resolution.
Unfortunately when I upgraded to Mavericks it screwed up. My MBP (late 2008) running Mavericks does not recognize the cable and the screen is blank. At least I can use my monitor connected to the mini display port -> DVI cable.
WIth any luck Apple will fix this SOON!!!

Nov 9, 2013 1:36 PM in response to anothertimeby Phunkae,I have a 2009 Mac mini connected to a Bravia TV with a mini display port to VGA adapter. Prior to mavericks this was a perfect setup, however after upgrading to mavericks , I find that often the resolution will reset to 800x600 after sleep or if the TV is not turned on when the Mac mini is on.
I can get it to display 1920x1080 using the ALT click trick but the image is offset and blurry. I suspect this might be because the refresh rate isn't selectable as we'll. Only a reboot will fix this. Such a PITA having to reboot every time I want to use Plex

Nov 10, 2013 2:33 AM in response to solrac139by shadowsheep,I've a macbook air and after upgrading to 10.9 I've got problems with the resolution of my external monitor.
What's solved my problem was buying the original mini display port to VGA adapter! Doh! While trying to solve this issue I've also learned that in display scale properties, if I press option (alt) key while choosing the option I can see more resolution options to select.
Hope this can help.

Nov 10, 2013 3:02 PM in response to solrac139by TommyBadger,At least a signal is getting to your monitors....My Macbook Pro (mid 2012) can't even see the monitor after the upgrade. It's black. So be happy-ish.

Nov 10, 2013 8:55 PM in response to TommyBadgerby PKRoss,I have the same problem - the advantage I had was I had two different cables, the DVI cable works the display port cable does not.
If you can try another cable type you may be able to at least use the monitor at a lower resolution.

Nov 11, 2013 2:31 PM in response to marcelfromnmby PKRoss,I have tried the option/command/p/r key solution a number of times, including right now. This does not work for my MBP/cable/monitor combination (MBP late 2008, mini display port -> display port, Dell u2711). In addition, it screws up one of my printers (it starts printing blank pages on a print command) and I have to delete the drivers and reload them.

Nov 11, 2013 2:49 PM in response to solrac139by George White2,I have a late 2012 Mac Mini with a Sony Bravia KDL40somethingortheother. I am having this problem (for some reason the resolution that works best for your monitor is not displayed) and the Alt/click on scaled thing works. But since I installed this upgrade I noticed a "Display Preferences" icon in the menu bar at the top of the screen. It appears that this is a new feature but the execution leaves a bit to be desired. Does anyone know if Apple is aware of these problems?

Nov 11, 2013 3:15 PM in response to George White2by PKRoss,Thanks but;
The problem is Mavericks will not recognize the mini display port -> display port cable. That is the cable is needed to get the maximum resoluion (2560X1440) on my monitor.
I have used the alt/click combination to get my resolution up to 1920X1080 using a DVI cable.

Nov 12, 2013 6:27 AM in response to PKRossby orangesky,Sleep:
For those of you using the Alt key solution, you have to do it all the time, right? I often find the screen res has been messed up again overnight or when I wake it up from sleep, but not always. It almost happens every time I wake up the computer just as the monitor is going to sleep. However, if I sleep the computer manually, perhaps it is less likely to happen.
In any cae, the Alt key solution is not permanent for me. It only works until the next involuntary reset.
Cables:
Hmm, there are a lot of posts about cables lately. I am using miniDisplayPort-to-VGA, although I think I have a DVI/VGA adapter somewhere. I experimented with all the ports when I bought this thing.

Nov 12, 2013 11:33 AM in response to orangeskyby PKRoss,For the not coming back to the correct resolution have you tried Display Menu from the app store. This may not solve your issue but it may make it quicker getting back to the resolution you want.
The cable issue - My monitor has a maximum resolution of 2560X1440. To get that resolution the only cable that will work is the mini display port -> display port. It would appear as though the current build of Mavericks did not include support for this cable / resolution. Right now my monitor is hooked to a DVI cable and it works at 1920X1080. It depends on what is the maximum resolution your monitor is capable of and what cable can provide that resolution.

Nov 13, 2013 7:06 AM in response to PKRossby diegotrystero,I tried with Display Menu, but when the wrong resolution issue happens also Display Menu shows only wrong resolutions for the secondary monitor. The only way to solve this bug is unplug the second monitor. When I plug it again the right resolution returns.

Nov 13, 2013 8:40 AM in response to diegotrysteroby orangesky,Are you using Alt, Diego, because I have the wrong resolution choices until I hold that key down.
I just created a workflow to fix the display since it seems to be happening a lot lately. I don't know much about Automator and this probably doesn't save much time since it's so few steps. Pretty cool, though.
Just press the record button and do what you normally do to fix the problem, then save it. I guess it's like macros in Windows.
