Where is delete button on mail notifications in Mavericks?

I've upgraded my late 2008 Macbook to Mavericks. I was excited to be able to delete emails directly from the pop up notifications. Instead the notifications are worse. Before I could open the email or close the notification. Now the two choices are close or replay so I can't even just go to read them.

Where is the delete button that I see in everyone's screenshots of the mail notifications? Does it only work with icloud mail?

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.4)

You can open them in Mail by simply clicking the body of the message, there is no obvious button other than the notification itself.

I have the same disappointment about the missing Delete button though.

Is the elimination of the Delete button something that was done very recently? I ask this since many of the pre-release screenshots on the web show a Delete button and touted this as one of the advantages of the new interactive notifications.

Notifications from Mail include a reply and delete button so you can act on them without leaving the app you are in.

The Delete button does NOT appear on my version of Mavericks. The notification bubble for Apple Mail has a Reply and Close button, not a Delete button. Is there a preference I need to set? (or a defaultswrite command?)

I Googled this with no joy (even this thread didn't come up) so I've ended up reposting it myself more or less. I'll let you know if anything materialises.

Can I clarify that we all have Mail set to an ALERT and not a BANNER?

Yes, mine is an alert, but it seems the 'banner' crew above have the same issue. It's frustrating - I seem to be getting so many emails today that I'm keen to delete! Typical!

I have an IMac and a Retina MBP, I upgraded both to mavericks yesterday at the same time. The delete option is there on my iMac email notifications, but sadly is not there on my MacBook Pro... very frustrating. The settings are identical, it has to be a glitch. I cannot find any answers online.

Clearly it is a case of compatibility with older systems. I have a 2008 Macbook and like your old MB pro, chances are that the older macs can't do the delete (just like they can't download mail in sleep mode) like newer models. Sure would be nice to find out officially tho

No, I don't think it's an age thing, my retina mbp is only a year old but my iMac is from 2010, so if it was an age thing it would be my retina mbp that would be working properly, not my old iMac. It doesn't make any sense at all, and I'm getting two notifications format emails on the mbp, I may try to reinstall the OS.
