Nov 8, 2013 8:43 PM in response to nbrsby turtle67,This is a HUGE mistake. For reasons I won't go into here, I can not sync my entire contacts database to my phone. No problem with the phone, but with another device that interacts with the phone. So, I created a group with just those contacts I wanted on my phone, and used iTunes to sync just that group to the phone.
I can see NO WAY to do that with the clever new system. Come on Apple! What are you thinking? Take away a very nice piece of functionality!

Nov 12, 2013 6:16 PM in response to nbrsby rellie212,ok so i know its a bit tedious but here's a temp solution.
1.sign into your iCloud online
2.go into contacts
3. hit the little gear in bottom left and select all
4. then export vcard
5. it creates a card file that downloads to your desktop
6. then open contacts and import vcard of all contacts
and there u go!
hope that helps for now : )

Nov 12, 2013 7:32 PM in response to nbrsby CatalystGuyTX,Yep, me too. This is highly frustrating because I have led a company wide campaign to switch to Apple products and they have taken away the local sync to push to the iCloud. Not going to do it. I have two macbook pro's, iMac, iPod and iPhone for me. One macbook pro for my wife and her iPhone.
Really Mac? Fix this PRONTO! If not, how do I back up out of Maverick iOS? This single item is enough not to have Maverick. The other stuff is cool but this is REAL.

Nov 12, 2013 7:45 PM in response to CatalystGuyTXby handsOFFmydata,If you got yourself into Mavericks iOS it might be tough luck ... how did you do it anyway?
If you want to roll back from OSX 10.9 (aka Mavericks), read this … http://support.apple.com/kb/ph11181?viewlocale=en_US … works exactly the same for OSX 10.9. I have rolled back as per instructions … no problems. You need to have a good time machine backup done under your previous OSX version.
Before you start, back up your computer to time machine, and your personal data to some external drive … just in case.

Nov 14, 2013 6:59 AM in response to nbrsby Fnuffnert,I don't think Apple realizes just how important an issue this is to some of us.
So...
... Dear Apple.
I wish to express my great discomfort with your exclusion of USB/Bluetooth sync between Maverick and iOS7. Finding this out I have come to realize that the company I've trusted to bring me better things in life now have made a turn for the worse, forcing its users to use iCloud even if they don't want to.
I've been an Apple client since 1987 and have through my companies and advocacy to family, friends and associates generated millions upon millions and millions of revenue for Apple. Seriously. Through the years my enterprises have been responsible for thousands of computers, printers, (you had those in the past), screens, laptops, smarttphones, smartpads, etc, etc... It's through customers like me that Apple even survived the late 90's when your products where anything but best in class, yet the prices were way up there... We did stay loyal thou because we so much loved the basic concept of placing the user in the front seat which is what Apple technology has always done..
But now... that seems to be abandoned. This one bad move outdoes anything Apple's done in the past. Not because it's not great technology (it is!). But because this is not a technical issue, it's a philosophical one.
As such it relates to fundamental values in me as a hunam being (who also happens to be your client). I'd be happy to change behaviour if that was what was at stake. I have in the past and once getting used to how you think things should be handled I've adapted and been OK.
But this is not a change of behaviour it's a change of values and that's where I, and many with me, draw the line. I do not like cloud services period. I don't trust them and I thoroughly dislike being forced to use them. Others who don't mind them can surely have them, but don't force me to use them against beliefs and values that are at the core of how I define myself and my freedom of choice!
If there isn't a fix, giving me, the user, back the power to chose for myself how and when I wish to synchronise my sensitive, personal data, then my journey with Apple will come to an end!
There are alternatives out there and I can can change my behaviour, adapt and even learn to live with lesser designs.
I'm giving until new year for Apple to bring back my freedom of choice.
Respectfully but not very happy

Nov 16, 2013 10:46 AM in response to Fnuffnertby yep2,As said earlier in this thread, I wrote a simple and very basic workaround to synchronize my calendar entries from iOS to OS X.
It's in the iOS AppStore now, for free:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/devicesync-for-ios/id737867459?l=de&ls=1&mt=8
You have to download the OS X app as well: https://github.com/yep/DeviceSync-for-OS-X/releases
This is in a proof of concept state and works for me, but may not suite your needs. If you miss some functionality, please add an issue at github: https://github.com/yep/DeviceSync-for-iOS/issues. Even better, support open source software and add a bounty to your github issue at http://bountysource.com.
I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link.

Actually Apple is closely monitoring this thread. They just added this "I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link. <Edited by Host>" section in my previous post some minutes ago.
I think the question is rather if they will report back to Tim.

Nov 16, 2013 12:08 PM in response to yep2by JuergMeister,That's great. Any chance you are working on a Contacts Sync App as well? That's the one I would really love to have.
Spent a lot of time with Apple Support yesterday and at least they acknowledged that this is an issue that they are getting a lot of calls on and a lot of support requests from people who are trying to roll back to Mountain Lion because of this. They could not offer much help, but at least they seem to recognize the pain it is causing.
So, everyone: keep on pushing ...

If one of your fellow users notifes the Hosts of a potential Terms of Use violation, they will read the post in question. Beyond that, no, they're not reading.

Nov 18, 2013 5:48 PM in response to nbrsby dintystew,I just got off Chat with two people from Apple Support. I went in knowing there wasn't a fix, but felt that it is important to register this complaint, and then they might pass on that this is a problem. I suggest others do this too.
Additionally, I suggest people leave a comment here:
http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html
It is frustrating when we spend so much time in a universe (Apple) and then some basic feature is removed. There is no reason to force everyone to iCloud or Google when a simple feature existed already. If it wasn't for all the data that Apple and Google (and others) freely gave to the NSA I might not be as stubborn about this issue as I am.
Good luck!
