What do you mean they don't work? Open finder and right click on another location in the sidebar and choose, open in new tab.

Ok I think I figured that one out.
If your toolbar is hidden in a finder window you can't open new Tab.
So tab only works in window where the toolbar is visible. I would have expected them to work in all cases.

I had this same problem. Why won't they work when the toolbar and sidebar are hidden? Narrow-minded programming, I suppose.
