Q: iCloud keeps asking for old obsolete apple ID

After updating my iMac to OS 10.9 I get repeated requests to enter my old and obsolete iCloud ID.  Sometimes is says there is a problem (showing new Apple ID)  but then displays my old Apple ID and asks for that password.  I have no such problem on my iPad.  I also made sure that both the iTunes Store and the Apple ID site have been fully updated.  I have gone in and answered security questions, changed my password several times and still the request for the old apple ID info comes up for iCloud on my iMac. With no entry, I cannot check or uncheck the items listed for iCloud, those things are grayed out.

I have a similar problem. I changed my e-mail address. When I installed 10.9, it asked me to login to iCloud and it presented me with my old e-mail address that I couldn't change. So I had to choose "Setup later"

Within "Internet Accounts" it has my old Apple ID for that account with no way of editing the username from the old e-mail address to the new.

I could delete the iCloud account and re-add it but I get warning after warning about deleting my data if I delete the account. Should I do it anyway?

I finally spoke online with a specialist who also informed me that I have a three month warranty after installing Mavericks.  Apparently everyone does although this is not published.  So yes, after making sure the data is there, for example contacts or calendar, you do delete everything and you will be asked a number of times as it cycles through everything.  Then you quit  iCloud in system prefs, relaunch it and login with your current apple ID and password.  The system is quite sluggish today because the servers are overloaded with downloads, particularly Maverick.  Eventually your contacts and calendar should repopulate with your old data.

I did what you suggested and it helped - thank you.

However, I now have another problem : I cannot deteled the current i-clould account on my i-Phone and iPad. They still have the old apple account e-mail address and the current password is not valid. In order to delete the account, the password is required and as it is no longer valid......I cannot delete the account.

Does anybody have an idea how to solve this problem ?

    Hello!

I've been in touch with an online apple adviser. It seems like you've missed a step. You'll need to manager your apple ID at  https://appleid.apple.com/ . Make sure you delete the current email which is registered there (primary email) and enter your current email adress. If your current email adress is already registered as primary, make sure you check the secondary email as well.

Now that you have registered your current email adress (the one you want icloud to be connected with), you're supposed to do step 2, which is deleting any trace to the email you wont be using on system at computer (system -> icloud). As far as I know, you've already done this step, which means you need to complete step 1. ry

Try it, if it doesn't help, leave me a message.

As I stated in my original post of the problem, I did go to appleid.apple.com and entered my new apple ID info.  I did the same on iTunes.  Finally I had to delete the information in my old iCloud account in system prefs, logout reopen iCloud in System prefs and enter the new ID information.  That solved my problem of always being asked for the old Apple ID and password for iCloud only on my Mac.  My iPad 3rd gen was unfazed by the entire process and continued working as usual.  I call this entire episode the POX of the old Apple ID...

hi guys, i just want to share how i solved my iCloud password saga on iPhone 4s.

after i unlocked my phone ( 3weeks) ago, iCloud been repeatedly asking me for a password with my OLD apple ID. i did try to enter the old password, but it wouldn't recognise it, at one point, i even went to change my apple ID password, but  that didn't solve the issue at all, as the problem being not able to change or delete the iCloud old apple ID.

So, this is what i did today, and it worked:

    - sign off FaceTime ( i actually changed the FaceTime log in from the old ID to the new ID, then signed off)

    - sign off iMessage( same steps with above)

    then,

    - sign in again of both FaceTime and the iMessage ( it should just automatically sign in to the apple ID you last entered)

now go to iCloud, turn off  " find my iPhone", it will ask you again the password with the old apple ID, you now should be able used the password for the new apple ID.

then you should be able to delete the include with the new password.

this should solve the saga, did it for me just now, i thought to share it here before i forget how, so hopefully will work for you as well! good lucky!

You absolutely fixed this issue. However, you can just sign in to both the FaceTime and iMessage and skip the signing out completely. Just put in your new password when you turn off "Find My iPhone."

My iPad was stuck in a seemingly endless cycle of prompting for my password for my old ID, and errors. The solution you offered stopped the insanity. Thank you SO much for sharing. You saved my iPad, my sanity, and (likely) a wall...
