Why is Mavericks randomly logging me out of my account?

iMac A1419 - Sierra 10.12.6 - same problem

Random Freeze and get back to login screen.

While using Safe mode (shift key pressed while starting), never got crashes.. but GPU acceleration is disabled... so obviously is a GPU problem...

Now, this is not a GPU physic problem.. is just a driver or software problem (not 3rd party software else some driver or kernel problem with certain GPUs)...

I have installed Windows (without Bootcamp).., using all GPU power.. and no crashes....

Get back to Mountain Lion is not a good solution for me, since i use Unity & Unreal (both Game Engines) need >=Yosemite....

I just had the same thing happen to me. Was using Safari and it became unresponsive for a few secnds, then I was logged out of my account and left at the login screen.

From the logs it looks like a GPU / WindowServer crash of some kind:

MacBook Pro 15". Not sure what log to display, but I have the same issue. Mavericks randomly does something that causes my computer to log me off. Of course this screws up all my running backups, email, and other running apps. Seems Maverick just force closes them with waiting or signalling them to shutdown.

I have been running 10.9 for the same amount of time on my 13" MacBook Air and haven't seen the issue yet. Wonder if it is specifically related to the GPU on the 15" rMBP?

This is what I have done so far. Did a "default reset" on Energy Pref, made sure Privacy & Security was not logging me off, and restarted the box several times.

Next I shutdown iCloud and turned "log in" off and set "log in" automatically. When I got up this AM the box was still running, though I cannot tell if the shutdown and restarted .... a possibility. Will test that today with Thunderbird running .... if the box reboots and does not properly shutdown T'bird, the "parentlock" file will be left in the profile, and T'bird will not start till it is deleted.

Finally gave up on Mavericks 10.9. There is some serious bug in it that causes it to crash/restart frequently. I cannot figure it out from the logs, so I will wait till Apple gets a dot version or two under this OS.

This typically means LoginWindow is crashing.

You need to try and find out what's causing it: Are you running anything like iStat Menus? Go look for the loginwindow crash in Console and post the full contents of it here.

I'm having the same problem. It's happened four times now and I'm on a new (1.5 weeks) 27" iMac so I don't think it's solely a MBP issue. It doesn't seem to happen in any consistent fashion but it's pretty frustrating. Just lost about an hour of work as I was literally about to hit command-s and the back up file didn't restore all of it. It's very irritiating and it doesn't seem like the menu bar on my second screen or tabbed finder windows are really worth it at this point.

I'm having the same issue, it seems very specific to when Parallel's is running.

I'm also using Parallel's and have filed an issue with them.

I'll try running it without Coherence mode. I was able to replicate the problem whenever I started a WebEx within the VM it would crash.

Same here: sudden logout of Maverick with Parallels 9, Windows 7 when opening ACDSee (photo editing software). I'll try using it without coherence.

Did running without Coherence help?

The same with iMac 27" late 2012, Mavericks and legal Parallels 8 and testing Parallels 9 trial.

Installed 24 Gb to OSX, and 8 Gb to W7 VM.

Playing games with Parallels, randomly the screen freezes for 1 or 2 seconds, and directly appears the login screen for select one of created users.

Opened an issue with Parallels, and trying to determine where is the problem, if related to Parallels, but reading all your posts, maybe is not a Parallels problem, could be a Mavericks issue.

@ amattas: I now run the windows 7 VM in full screen mode in Parallels, no issues so far. Also updated Parallels to the latest version (to solve a mouse randomly disconnecting and reconnecting in the VM). So I am not sure now what stopped it.
