Hi Alejandro.

I believe, although I am not 100% sure, that model A1428 does not support the 4G bands used by Movistar in Chile. That model supports LTE in the US and Canada, Guam, Mexico and Puerto Rico only. You probably need model A1429 for Chile. Call Movistar. They should be able to tell you what 4G band they use and then you can check in the link below, which model you need.

ALL iPhone 5s have the option to enable/disable LTE regardless of the network you are on and whether it supports LTE or not. Assuming you're on ios7, go to Settings, Cellular and you will have "Enable 4G". Keeping it on, your iPhone will use 4G wherever available but turning it off, your iPhone will force a 3G (or other non-4G) connection.

There are no supported carriers at all in Sri Lanka, much less carriers that support LTE on the iPhone. Even if you have a phone that would be compatible with the LTE bands used in your country, it will not allow you to use LTE until and unless your carrier has their network certified as compatible by Apple and issues a carrier update for the phone to enable LTE on their network.

Hi traceur333.

I bought my iPhone 5 here in Chile, it has on its back the code A1428. I read in somewhere that it's 4G LTE compatible but I am not able to find the switch for that mode in anywhere.

Also, the iphone's model is not easy to find... MD293CI/A

I am Movistar's suscriptor and so far I am not able to get the 4G LTE network...

Any idea?

Many thanks in advance!

Regards,

Alejandro.

Is your carrier Dialogue? That is the only LTE network approved by Apple for Sri Lanka.

If it is, you have to check that your iPhone has the latest carrier settings. Go to Settings, general, about and look at the version of your carrier's settings. Normally you would have the latest version and if not, you would be prompted to download and install such settings.

Once you have their latest settings, your 4G toggle will replace your current 3G toggle.

If you want help with this, then start a new thread of your own and DON'T hi-jack somebody elses thread.

The OP's question was for a totally different country - Sri Lanka.

If your phone was purchased in Australia then there is a liklihood that you will never be able to get 4G in Pakistan due to the frequency differences.

Buy a phone in Pakistan instead and then it should work.
