On the Microsoft Outlook forums we do not recommend making subfolders under the Inbox.

    Exchange  Header

    Inbox

      Folder A  <---this is wrong

    Drafts

    Deleted Items folder

    Junk

Folder A  <-- this is correct

It's best to move folders using your web interface (OWA) but you can drag in Outlook.

    In Outlook:

First turn off Group folders. You'll see the header with the name of your Exchange account at the top. Drag folders to the header. Do this slowly. It will take some time for results to sync to server then back to Outlook.

    In Browser via OWA

Because of the massive changes The process is best done in your browser. I would also put Outlook into work offline mode during this process. After all is moved on the server via the browser, I would delete the Exchange account and let it all download correctly from the server. If you only have Exchange, just start over in a new Identity.

If you've migrated from Windows to Mac and happen to have an *extra* windows box you could...

get an OnMicrosoft account, set up your windows box/exchange for windows to access onMicrosoft

(there have been some posts about this)

Install the iCloud services for Windows to "integrate" you contacts/calendar to iCloud

Use CodeTwo utlility to "synch" your Windows Exchange Contacts/Calendar with your iCloud Contacts/Calendar

Not really elegant, but I was trying to figure out what to do with my old windows box anyway...

[my situation was actually a bit worse with a Corporate Calendar, but CodeTwo has some nice synchronization tools for Windows]

Like the mainframe, I guess Windows lives to see another day...

So for me almost everything seems to be working OK since the last Mail update, I do receive Exchange emails on time, and sending emails also works.

However, I do have the problem others are also reporting, that is sending emails with attachments has problems. After sending the email with attachment, Mail.app bonks saying it couldn't send the email. I hit "Edit Again", and after sending second time again it gets sent successfully.

This state of things is hugely annoying, it is a shame Apple does not even make any statement about this, to at least acknowledge the existence of the issue.

Follow the advice from MattMacPro, repeated below. It worked for me perfectly. Part of the problem is that, at least when I did it with Matt's guidance, it looked like the EWS contained some legacy glitch. When you delete it and then re-establish your Exchange account, a new EWS will be created and all will be well.

"I would like to refine this solution and remove some of the steps I think are unnessasary - and add one of my own ...

    • Make sure I had a good backup in Time Machine (including system settings) in case something goes wrong
    • Quit Apple Mail
    • Delete the Exchange account using "System Preferences > Internet Accounts"
    • Using Finder, locate and delete the folder(s) and all their contents:~/Library/Mail/V2/EWS-(your exchange acct info)
      • Delete any EWS account folder you find there.
    • Empty the Trash
    • Reboot the computer
    • Open "System Preferences > Internet Accounts" and setup Exchange account as if it were the first time.
    • It will take some time for all your email to sync again (especially if you have a large amount of email). If your email Inbox appears to not be showning the latest email you can select the Exchange Inbox folder within your InBox and select from the menu bar - MailBox > Rebuild. Select from the menu bar - Window > Activity  - and you can watch the progress of the re-sync of your email."

    Hi JohnFX,

Is this related to the issue with sending attachments or missing folders?

Trying it anyway. I should have an Apple SR. Support Chat tomorrow on the Attachment-Gate so will keep you guys posted.

Cool... rebuilding Mailboxes as we speak. How long ago did you do this? I used some other 'tricks' that work for 24 hours so curious to hear if this has been working for days/week.

Unfortunately this ultimately doesn't work. I did this exact same process 3 times weeks ago. Mail just dies off.

I did this mid-December. Actually, it all came about because I noticed a glitch that I still haven't fixed and that relates to a couple of regular addressees. When I type in their address, I get duplicates of their address. It has no functional significance, but it is weird. I partially fixed it by not letting Gmail contribute to my address book. Anyway, in check into this, I noticed that I had 2 Exchange accounts! How that happened beats me. So I deleted both accounts and re-established a new account. That's when the atatchment problems arose, and ultimately I called in my super-tech nephew, Matt (MattMacPro) who helped me sort it out. So if you follow his instructions, I think you'll find that this problem will go away. Actually now that I have done this, I cannot even find a Mail folder in my LIbrary. Just doesn't exist. Go figure.

Are you sure that you have really gotten rid of all the EWS files? Maybe there's another one lurking in another location? Way beyond my technical expertise though. All I can say is that my fix has not only been stable but Mail seems to be working a little faster.

I've been having the same problems but I think I finally fixed it for me. I wasn't able to use the search in Mail, but I was able to use the account at least. When I updated to 10.9.1 hoping Apple had fixed the problem, I suddenly couldn't even access my Exchange account.

Here's the steps that finally worked for me:

    1. Went back to my old Macbook Pro, verified and repaired disk permissions via Disk Utility.
    2. Backed up the old machine using Time Machine (I hadn't done that before but someone I work with did and he wasn't having the same trouble with Mail).
    3. Erased my new Macbook Pro.
    4. Did an internet recovery of the latest copy of Mavericks (10.9.1)
    5. Use the migration assistant to pull in the backup of the old MBP from Time Machine.

This appears to have solved the problems with the search in Mail not working, and the fact that my Exchange account wasn't working at all.

    I hope that helps.

I just tried this and it worked.  My subfolders are showing again under the inbox folder.  I deleted all of the data in my mailbox area in the library section under the ews section.

Well it worked for a few minutes and then back to the usual problems of the subfolders not showing.  Repeated all the steps about three times and it didn't work again.  So back to using Outlook.

I deleted the exchange account in every possible site (mail accounts panel, calendar accounts panel, internet accounts panel), closed mail, restarted the computer, and then reinstalled the exchange account in the intenet accounts panel.

Rebuilding each mailbox and subfolder then solved the problem.

Er, which problem Arby1? You are answering a post on page 8 of 21 and this thread has been complicated with several problems including late inbox deliveries, missing subfolders, cant save with attachments, just to mention three.
