Q: Exchange servers and Mavericks Mail

It loads it when you open the Mail app, but then no new messages will appear in the Exchange inbox while app is open - fetch new mail and the Activity Window show "Synchronizing Inbox" and jsut sits there and waits.. Close the app and reopen - New Mail appears.  Another  bug?

Understand your message that Airmail in many ways does the job one would expect from the Apple Mail application.

However I have experienced that Airmail seems to have some flaws with the presentation of some mail messages, presenting them as one long sentece and making these impossible to read.

I have therefore been so lucky to have a license for the Office Outlook app, and that works fast and always seems updated from the Exchange server, even if I miss the clean interface that Mail had. But functionality is more important than design with my mails. Sorry to say.

I never had any such problems with Airmail.  And it is $1.99 compared to what? $300 for Outlook. The beta is free and more debugged.

I've tried Airmail a few times and it's just not for me.  Doesn't work as well as Mac Mail in terms of organization.  I receieve hundreds of emails each day, most go into other folders and I only review them once a day.  Airmail shows all unread emails in all folders in the "To Read" mailbox.

Let me know if anyone out there wants to troubleshoot their Mail and Excahnge server.  I'm willing to help to see if the issues are identical to what we are experiencing.

I'm happy to hear that you never had the issues with strange formatting of messages in Airmail. I dont understand why it happens, just can se that some messages are compressed into one long sentence.  Outlook is pricey, but fortunately for me I already got the 2011 officepackage . Otherwise, I would certainly use Airmail, it's a great app and a nice price.

Another possibility is Touchdown (http://mactouchdown.com). I tried the free trial and it seemed good. More expensive than Airmail but cheaper than Outlook.

Well, I'm sad to say I have an update on my "fix". The problem is back after only a week. I can't use my exhange account in Mail, Calendar or Contacts.

The problem appeared to occur again when I tried to access Contacts. Mail and Calendar were working fine. Contacts seemed to be having troubling hitting the exchange account. Contacts asked me for a password this morning. It didn't accept the PW. Then when I went back to Mail and Calendar, they aren't working now either.

After spending countless hours already, this is immensely frustrating.

KF_OFC, any way we can jump on an email conversation together?  I don't work for Apple but I can help you troublehsoot the problem.  I too am having issues, but not as bad as what you're describing.  Your problems are most likely the configuratin or because of missing updates on your Exchange server.

Hi, I'm back using Maverick and MAIL to read and send my e-mails after 3 days, thanks to bradh. He identifed that the Exchange server needed an update, but most importantly, that my work mail server seems to provide some not-so-good setttings when using the autodiscover function. Hence, mail server settings is now manually set, and MAIL works on two computers now.

I'm now able to send and recive mail with MAIL again, and it works. Thanks to Bradley.

Care to identify the specific updates your IT people applied, and list the manual settings you used?

If it is the fix then you could share your success with other sufferers.

It would be great if there was a fix, although I admit to strong skepticism. There have been many suggestions on this discussion that worked for short times only. I second peter_watt's request to see the specific updates so we can try to implement here. I would love to give up Outlook and return to a functional Mail.

Actually, the IT unit has not yet applied the update for the Exchange server, so basically I removed the autodiscover option in the MAIL settings, and inserted the shortest known adress to the mail server.

    Like:

    mail.xxxxx.dk

    DK since I'm in Denmark.

It has been working for 3 hours now.

Three hours! Give it a week then if it still works come back with a list of your manual settings.

So the exchange updates are irrelevant and misleading then?

Hi, I agree, with your skepticism, as I have also been a frequent reader of these forums for the past couple of months. I promise to report back if something changes. It seems to simple, as so many has tried and suggested all sorts of things here.

Johnfx. Thanks! This fix seems to SOLVE my problem either with or without an attachment. Also changed to "check for new messages: automatically." Previously was set at five minutes.

I have been having the same issues as well as issues with the emails sitting in my outbox. I just removed all of the passwords related to email from keychain access and everything works great.
