How block "Visual match" pop-ups?

I had the same problem, just solved it.

You are probabely using Glims...

If so go to Safari->Preferences->Glims->Ads/Shopping and turn off the ads.

The ads are enabled since the last version of Glims - 1.0.41 and that's why you got the popus on 10.8.5.

Thank you - That was indeed the reason. What a horrible 'feature'.

Looking at the preferences setting - they were looking for a way to finance the Glims project (pizza & beer). This particular implementation of advertizing enhancement doesn't work well. More research needed (especially on how obtrusive it can be - Looking at DealySteals detail views, Visual Match obstructs the close box!).

The idea of finding some kind of financing is admirable. This solution is more of a problem.

Indeed. Fortunately, with the new update .42, they've added it as a choice to the installer and it defaults to no.

I have this problem too and would love to 'deactivate' it. Reading the directions posted seems easy enough, but what is 'Glims'? I can't see this in the preferences and am getting really frustrated with trying to figure out how to turn this feature off.

I found the problem (at least for me)

if you have installed <Awesome Screenshot> ,go to safari extention and uncheck "Enable similar product search powered by superfish"

That fixed it for me, hope it helps anyone who doesn't have the Glims thing installed.

Can anyone help? i have face the same problem but I got nothing in my extension. I getting crazy about this ad 😟

I would refer you to thomas_r 's recommendation on another discussion titled "ad showing up in lower left hand corner" that has a link to his Adware Removal Guide at his website "The Safe Mac": http://www.thesafemac.com/arg/

I also had no extensions or Glims but was none the less afflicted. By following the straight forward directions there I was able to determine the type of adware I was infested with and remove it!

At the right hand end of the list that starts with General and just past Extensions and Advanced.

Thanks a lot! This was the only solution that worked for me. All the other advises (extensions, plug-ins, etc.) didn't work because I had nothing on my browsers.

Now my Mac's back to normal!
