Mavericks upgrade wifi problem exclamation mark

Upgraded to Mavericks last night. Since then, no internet connection. iMac connects to the right AP but shows an exclamation point.

Wifi was working before the install and the other Macs with previous versions of OS X are connecting fine with the same AP.

Anyone had a similar problem? Any ideas what could be wrong?

Thanks!

I have a 2008 MacbookPro. Since upgrading to Mavericks, wifi has been a problem.

Never had even one issue on Mountain Lion, Ever.

ALL of the simple "fixes" in this post have been tried.

Bluetooth off... SMC reset... PRAM reset... Networks cleared, reset... More, I can't even rem' them all.

I can connect to random old Routers, but most don't work, Unless... I'm in 'SafeMode'... Then I can connect to Any Router just fine. Of course it connects to the one at the Apple Store, so no way to diagnose there.

I just tried a Brand New Airport Express... Same deal. What's Different about this Express, than at the store?

Is there no way to fix Mavericks? Do I really have to go back to Lion & wait for OS.11?

It's obviously something in the software blocking wifi in reg' boot mode, as it connects fine in SafeMode.

Any ideas left...?

Mine did the same. But as suddenly as it came back, it disappeared again and since it tries to connect (to the same hardware), but won't. The strange this is since it last stopped working, it does try to and I get all the different indicators of all the different modes of inoperability. One time I get the !, then no hardware installed, then the fan grayed out, then it says it's connected and with Option-Click on the WiFi indicator it shows that I'm connected with a ton of great connection specs saying all is well, but in the Network Control Panel it says that the WiFi is not even turned on and there is no connection.

From what I have seen, and this is in SL, Lion, ML and Mvrx, where WiFi has stopped in all OS's, is that this is pointing to software. Because if it were hardware, it should indicate that there is no hardware installed and shouldn't be trying to, sometimes working for seconds, to connect.

Personally, I think this is such a HUGE corporate nightmare that will become a HUGE press, logistical and material nightmare for Apple. They may have to go back a long way to cover this all. What a mess. But the lack of Apple not addressing this is so "unApple".

After suffering for 4 days straight, finally figured out what was causing my Wi-Fi to not pick up an IP Address via DHCP, manually assigning it would work. Also safe-mode would pick an IP via DHCP.

I did not disable McCaffee before the upgrade to Mavericks which causes componets to failed. I actually removed it and rebooted. Problem Solved.

My machine is a MBP 2011 13-inc.

Hope this helps the community.

Apple thank you so much for using your loyal user community as guiney pig testers for mavericks. We absolutley appreciate your desire to drive us all slowly insane by the incessant issues that reside in your implementation of "networking" in your latest and greatest releases of your OS.

It is especially nice of you to insist that so many of us now accept your new user license agreement of using tin cans and cables along with bongo drums to connect to the "tin"ternet along with your new bongo2 protocol.

Although I would just like to point one little ity-bitty weakness in your obvious enormous effort to please us all with your latest "special" and "free" OS and it is this

So many of us are having to use microsoft windows to log on to your forums to show our appreciation

Yours sincerely and faithfully,

A once loyal customer of 14 years

P.S.

After 14 years, I am moving back to MS with my next purchase, because guess what, they actually listen to their customers more than you guys do now.

Plus I actually need a machine that can reliably cummunicate with the rest of the planet no matter what network interface or settings I use. Its called networking for a reason....you do actually realise that part don't you 😉 Funny how the wind changes direction.

One loyal customer joined by other longtime loyal customers brings about a tidal change, you forget we went to your platform for reliability and stability. Now all you seem to focus on is prettyness and fleecing.

As a company you do a perfect imitation of a osterich sticking its head in the sand.

I thought my problem with wi if connectivity was solved after making the suggested adjustments advised by both Apple techs and Verizon techs. Both groups were very patient and earnest in trying to right my problem. I am sad to say the problem of wi if connectivity after upgrading/downloading Maverick continues.

I have had the exact same problem as described above. Tried all the solutions to no avail. It happened just after maverick upgrade and a new airport extreme. I found out that channel 1 in the 2.4 Ghz band was severely overcrowded at my home. I manually set the channel to 6 and all of my problems went away. This causes problems with Yosemite Beta 1 also. I also set the 5 Ghz band to 40. You can find these settings in the router/wifi/advanced page. This also fixed the slow wifi on my iPhone. Let me know if this helps anyone.

(yes, it makes no sense that Maverick seems responsible but it is the router that is supposed to select an uncrowded channel. I works like a charm for me.)

Same problem... 169.254.xxx. After trying out several solutions...

(1) Restarted my mac several times

(2) SMC reset

(3) PRAM reset

(4) removed all network profiles and renewed them

(5) deleted all Keychain access related to network (airport)

(6) deleted network configuration plist file

(7) deleted bluetooth configuration plist file

(8) deleted the system configuration folder entirely

The one thing that worked was this bluetooth thing...

(9) System preferences -> Network > Redefine the priority of the connections (wifi, ethernet, bluetooth,...). Strangely a Bluetooth DUN appeared that was not shown. Added Bluetooth DUN and then deleted it. Checked if it was gone in the Redefine priority.

(10) Just in case deleted bluetooth configuration plist file again. Restarted mac again. Tadaaaa! It works!

I really don't know if steps (1) to (8) were necessary. Step (9) was crucial.
