Mavericks upgrade wifi problem exclamation mark

Upgraded to Mavericks last night. Since then, no internet connection. iMac connects to the right AP but shows an exclamation point.

Wifi was working before the install and the other Macs with previous versions of OS X are connecting fine with the same AP.

Anyone had a similar problem? Any ideas what could be wrong?

Thanks!

I've learned a very valuable lesson from all of this - I have had hours of playing around tryng to correct Maverick-based problems (slow start up, wifi drop outs, not to mention iBooks) and have tried many (obviously failed) solutions. The answer is...NEVER install an OS until it has been released for about a year. Seriously. I've even had one-eyed Tim Cook apologists agree with me on this (ok - they said a few months wait, but I suggest a year to get a safety margin).

this has been happening to me since I upgraded to Maverick.

Im totally sick to death now of turning on and off my internet connection just to be able to work on my Macbook.

Its now switching itself off practically every 30 mins..sometimes sooner.

This has been going on since the launch of Maverick and I have been reading closely this discussion for some feedback from Apple - where is it? NOTHING.

Ive tried to do the fixes recommended above ( but none worked ) so a total waste of time. If anyone can advise me how to take Maverick off my Macbook and return to the previous operating system of mountain lion I would be hugely appreciative because Apple dont seem to be in a hurry to help anyone.

** btw, this is NOT my router or my internet - I have NEVER had a problem with it until upgrading with Maverick.

I had the same troubles with my iMac mid 2011, I've tried almost all the tips on the forum to no avail, this morning I have changed the my network to a open network (no password) and since then I have no problems. I think I will just bind the mac address and leave it like this, at least for now. Maybe my experience can help others.

I have also noticed a wifi problem after the mavericks "upgrade" but the wifi problem has affected the print command from imac to wifi printer (Epson)

Was on the phone with Apple Care today and we deleted the printer from system preference then added it. Before readding it the firware showed 1.0 and after the re add it is showing 9.0 but is still having this issue of not printing for about 15 mins after the print command is sent.

Not sure what to do but when I call Apple Care back I will certainly mention this thread to them.

Add, me too; WiFi issues since I updated to Mavericks. WiFi home service rep brought me a new unit & even now, I still have problems with getting connected. First thought is to clear Prefs but as some may know, that is a thing of the past, apparently!

Why?

With direct ethernet connection I can get online but no longer can use WiFi (Airport) and therefore no longer with MB.

Plus, often it justs stops.

Have tried the suggestions: PRAM reset & SMC, so far, no go, now will try the other ideas.

Lynngre,

Problem and solution confirmed, wifi/bluetooth handling over 2.4ghz is causing higher noise to signal ratio that is producing network drops or reconnect failure. Looks like with Apple's updated drivers or sleep/wake priorities in Mavericks cause a clash between the 2 creating these woes. As such one of the following is highly recommended for resolution.

1. Disable bluetooth (operates at 2.4ghz as does 802.1g, this fixed my problem), this may not be an option for those using blueooth enabled keyboard/mice.

2. Move to a higher channel, ie 5ghz so that you won't get interferance from internal bluetooth or the highly common 2.4ghz like in my apartment complex (think cordless phones, other 802.1g wifi nearby); this wasn't an option for me with AT&T U-Verse unless I want to go third party wifi router which would create an additonal hop in my network, thus increased latency 😟 and out of pocket expense to fix this problem.

3. Adjust your channel on your 2.4ghz to a channel others aren't using with a nearby signal strength, you should do this anyways to increase the efficiency of your wifi thus resulting in faster connects, less drops, more network throughput and smoother web performance.

4. Clear your networks and reload in order of use. This could potentially assist with reconnection issues.

My problem was solved using safe mode but off course, this isn't a valid solution.

I fought with it again and again but the solution was quite simple :

1. Get to the exclamation mark state.

2. > sudo rm -rf /Library/Preferences//SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist

3. Voila! I get the WIFI exalamtion goes away.

Hope it will help Apple engineers to find this out.

OK. I am running 10.8.5 on my late 2012 Macbook Pro. Wired and Wifi interfaces work with DHCP with no problem. When I got to my Duo Mac 5,1 running 10.9.1, DHCP works fine with the Wired port but I get the same old problem with the WIFI as everyone else. The WIFI associates to the AP just fine (apparently) but it self-assigns the IP address (which results in the Greyed-out WIFI symbol with the Exclamation mark.

Hint: Something may be hosed up with DHCP with the WIFI interface software.

Mavericks is a bit of a mess and was apparently released too early. Or Apple fired all of their quality control folks and decided to use the customers ibstead ;-)
