Quicktime on Mavericks outputs stuttering audio.

Also some of my video files need "converting" before they play on quicktime. Thus I'm using VLC for now. No stuttering problems with iTunes sound or audio. When will Quicktime be fixed? And is anyone else having these problems?

I think it was Apple/Mavericks that broke something ( it was only Apple software that had sound problems ) but often it is easier for the smaller company to create a fix than it is to get the big one to do something. Sometimes though it may just be that a spec has been tightened that makes a looser interpretation no longer function as it once did. I suspect both side could create fixes for the issue.

Maybe Focusrite can enlighten us as to what the problem was/is?

10.9.2 is out now and many people report fixes for audio distortion

I just updated and i still get crackling when using my external sound card and speakers when watching quicktime video and crackling in full screen video in iTunes but not in windowed mode or not when i quicklook a video file. music playback and recording seem fine

Hi everyone, didn't read all 13 pages, but i must say that i had serious audio clicks and pops listening to QT movies, even listening to stuff on soundcloud. I read in one post that some people where told by their audio card manufacturers that the problem was with QT.

I just noticed that Metric Halo, i have a 2882, had a new driver on their site for 2 weeks now. I installed it and everything is A1. So this makes me think that the issue probably came from Apple but the developpers CAN do something about it.

EDIT on my workaround :

- It works with garageband (which everyone has on mac) ! So : simply let garageband open (and reduced, with an empty project), and all work fine ! QT player X, plug-in insafari (with HTML players like vimeo, or Youtube if you switched to), and preview ! for both .mp4 and .mov

Wow! That did it. Thanks you! This issue has been bugging me for a while. I'm no on 10.9.2 and Apple still has not fixed the problem.

I sent Apple feedback stating that I can't watch TV shows that I purchased from them in fullscreen mode, and haven't received a response!

Exactly same issue here too.

Mac mini 2013, OSX 10.9.2, updated from Mountain Lion (fresh install and restore from timecapsule)

Presonus Firestudio Mobile with latest drivers 1.7.2 (it's a firewire audio interface)

Symptoms (only qt stutters) and workarounds (internal audio OK, audiomidi panel etc) are same as everybody else.

Spent some time trying to understand what was happening, until hit the web and found this thread.......

I noticed that Focusrite have had a beta driver available for a while, but I was was working on my latest album I didn't want to try it. But now I've finished the project, I installed the driver and can confirm that it fixes the issue for me. Focusrite users can find the driver here - http://beta.focusrite.com/releases/saffire_mix_control/

This confirms for me that although Apple obviously changed something in Core Audio on Mavericks, that it is something that your audio interface makers can and should be fixing, not Apple. You should definitely be pressing them for a fix. If Focusrite can fix it, so can the others.
