multiple display setting to keep apps on each screen

With Mountian Lion I was able to place apps on each of my 2 displays for productivity. When I restated the computer, the apps were on the screen they were last seen on. In Mavericks, the OS puts all of the apps back on the main display and I have to move everything back around. Not good for productivity in the morning. Is there a setting that will keep each app on the screen I have assigned it to upon reboot?

Quite annoying. Mavericks indicated that there was enhanced multiple display support, this seems like it has gone backwards.

uncheck "automatically rearange spaces..." in mission control....

This did not work. Kept the calendar app on second screen but put 2 other apps back on main screen. This is same behavior as before.

Any other suggestions?

I had similar problem. I unchecked DISPLAYS HAVE SEPARATE SPACES and it seems to fix it.

this solution worked for me, but now i seem to have lost the menu bar that would have been on the second monitor. is this normal?

Yes - unfortunately it reverts the display behaviour to Mountain Lion - you lose all the Mavericks bells & whistles.

If you leave 'Displays have separate spaces' checked you can assign an application to a specific Desktop/display/space by right-clicking (control-clicking) the app in the Dock -> Options -> Assign To.

WE have a new problem as well.

Mavericks laptops seem not able to output a movie from iTunes when using the thunderbolt to VGA adapter.

This is separate to the odd HD licensing issue

Had the same problem, could not see the "Assign to" options. Did this and apps open in the monitor they are assigned.

Mavericks now considers each monitor a "Space". As a result, apps launch and have their menu bar in whichever monitor they were launched from. However, it's easy to assign apps to each monitor. Here's how:

First, you need to create an additional space in Mission Control. You can add it to either monitor.

Having done that, then when you right-click on an app in the Dock, you will see the option to assign the app to All Desktops, Desktop on Display 1, Desktop on Display 2.
