Missing dock icons in Mavericks

simply a restart can fix this problem 🙂

Until it comes back again after a while!

When I first lost the icons on my doc I tried 'everything' (restarting, resetting PRAM, repairing permissions, etc.). Nothing worked until I used the killall Dock command in Terminal. Since then the problem has *not* reappeared.

Here is a non-technical fix that worked for me:

In Finder, select Applications. Then select List View. Click on the app for a missing icon and drag it to Launchpad in the dock. When the screen clears, select Launchpad and see the missing icon restored. When I tried to move all the apps associated with the missing icons simultaneously, Lauchpad wouldn't accept them. However, when I transferred three or four at a time, it worked perfectly, checking Launchpad for the restoration each time. Tedious, but it works. Performed a shutdown and restart to confirm this was a permanent fix. No problems since doing this.

THis is way better than what I found...which was to, with a TrackPad, click on missing icon with 2 finger | Select Options | Show in Finder...When the Finder window opens, the icon re-appears on the dock. This is bad for one missing icon...But, the terminal command is much quicker if all, or a majority, of them disappear! Thanks 🙂

This solved my problem

1. Open 'Terminal';

2. Copy this text (without comas): '' mv ~/L*/Application\ Support/Dock/*.db ~/Desktop ";

3. Press Enter; (Screen will flash and icons, dock & finder will disappear for some seconds! In the end, everything will appear on screen!

4. Restar computer;

5. Immediately after turning it on, press AT THE SAME TIME: Command + ALT + P+ R

6. The screen will flash & you'll hear the booting sound again! Then you can let go teh keyboard.

Restarted, used disk ultility to repair the disk and after that tried the killall dock command. Neither worked for me as my docks icons are missing 😟 Running standard software, been a mac user for 10 + years and never had this before Mavericks. Please FIX Apple! Thanks

Sergi's command (above) and restarted normally (without holding Command + ALT + P + R) and that restored all my dock icons, will monitor for a while and advise if its a permanent fix

ok guys,I solved the problem, I backed up all my information in my time machine did a system restore from a random date up to the last month (didn't loss anything) and after the backup was made the computer was working flawlessly all the dock and finder symbols are back 🙂 and even had a performance Boost! so far so good

To repair the missing icons in the dock area in OS 10.9.1:

Right click where the icons would normally be, then click options, then show in finder. Close the finder window after it pops up and they magically reappear. The only one I can't get to appear using this method is the finder icon, but I'm working on it. Maybe someone else has a fix for that icon?
