Nov 6, 2013 10:33 AM in response to Ricklausby danboyk,Well, I tried the Safe Boot...no luck.
I launced FaceTime which just remained blacked and Photo Booth which stayed black but gave a spinning loading symbol. The green light does come on so the camera does activate.
When I restarted and launched FaceTime I got the same issue as before!
Could I have let loose a cable when changing out the drives?

It seems that people are having more success with using the Keychain reset.

ApplicationsHi,
There has been a problem in the past where some laptops suddenly lose access to the camera.
This is normally wear and tear of the cable as it passes through the hinge or in some cases the cable itself being too "tight" and pulling the camera fixings until it becomes loose.

You may have had a bad download or install on your OS X 10.9 Upgrade. Reinstall OS X Mavericks.
Immediately following the restart that completes the reinstall, use the Disk Utility in your Mac's Finder > Go Utilities folder to repair permissions. Then check your camera's function again. Test more than one Apple camera app in more than one user account.

Nov 23, 2013 9:07 AM in response to EZ Jimby Ricklaus,Already tried that. I installed the mavericks 5 times, nothing helped until now. The green light doesnt turn on. If somebody make a facetime call to my macbook, the app start to run, but appears a mensage saying that i dont have a Facetime cam. I tried to upgrade mavericks from lion, then from mountain lion, then i made a clean install, an none of this healped. My Battery just lost potencial and now i think that the right side of the top of the display is getting really hot. :/

ApplicationsHi,
In the instances I was talking about repairs were needed.
In some models it was the cabling going through the hinge that got worn via regular opening and closing the lid.
In others, the cable pulls off the camera end in "normal" use of again opening and closing the lid.
Sites like iFixIt list several models that the home user can attempt to fix themselves.
Obviously Apple have the Apple Stores and the Apple Authorised Service Providers that one could use.

If you now have found something that helps, please tell us what it is. Otherwise:
• If FaceTime is your only problem camera app,
see FaceTime for Mac: Troubleshooting FaceTime.
• If more than one camera app is giving trouble,
test more than one app in more than one user account
per http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090.

If all these problems continue or worsen, you likely have hardware problems. Contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for help.

Dec 30, 2013 10:42 AM in response to Ricklausby COBRAws,After upgrading to Mavericks, my MBP's Facetime camera was no longer available on ANY software using the camera: Skype, Facetime, etc.
I read a lot of forums and apple's knowledgebase and the only thing that worked was reseting the keychain. You may do this following the steps found here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1544
Note: You may need to re-login with all 3rd party installed services (Google Music, Chrome, etc).

Jan 5, 2014 2:21 PM in response to COBRAwsby noula,I have this problem with a new MacBook Air which came with Mountain Lion, after I upgraded to Mavericks. The camera is now longer available in Skype. Though the camera works with the FaceTime Application, the screen remains black in Skype.

Jan 5, 2014 2:26 PM in response to noulaby noula,I found the answer on Skype Support:
- The problem you’re experiencing might be the result of upgrading your operating system to Mac OS X v10.9 Maverick. This operating system doesn’t support Skype...
So the only solution available will be downgrading back to Mountain Lion. Best,

Mar 24, 2014 5:54 AM in response to Ricklausby a_mac_from_space,Hi - I have this issue too.
I found that it was the AirDisplay driver being installed. You'll probably find that you have a software screen extender or monitor driver app installed, something like AirDisplay or AirParrot etc. These don't work under Mavericks at the moment. If you uninstall these, your iSight camera will start working again.
I've been in contact with the support people at Avatron (AirDisplay) and they tell me that this is an Apple issue which they think will be fixed by Apple in the next OS release.
Until then, you can either use your extended display or your iSight camera, but not both!
After you uninstall the screen driver software, you may need to run Skype (if you use it) to get things working again (this saves doing some sudo touch stuff in the terminal to rebless the extensions folder)
Hope this helps...

Mar 24, 2014 10:05 AM in response to Ricklausby noula,My latest results with MBA and Mavericks 10.9.2 and Skype 6.14 (the latest update) installed: It should be sufficient to go to System Preferences/Displays and set the available options obligatorily to "Optimize for: Built-In Display". Your FaceTime Camera in Skype should turn on immediately without any necessity to restart.
Either the Mavericks 10.9.2 update (I installed on Feb. 28) or the Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update 5.04 (I installed on March 24) did the trick. Thanks.
