Q: finder crashes with maverick

Installed Mavericks and shortly thereafter Finder crashed. Error message keeps appearing, click OK to send to Apple and message returns. Tried restart to no avail. Any suggestions?

    Had the same problem.

I was able to get around it by going into Google Drive > Preferences and disabling "Show file sync status icons and right click menu"

The awkward thing is that as others have mentioned it wasn't a problem for me right away after upgrading to Mavericks, it took a couple days before finder started to relaunch.

Root cause of this issue: Mavericks has some changes that cause stacks to misalign (for non-technical people - memory corruption and hence the crash) in a popular library called mach_inject. This has already been fixed in the library, see: https://github.com/rentzsch/mach_inject/issues/5. Apps like Dropbox and presumably Google Drive are going to see this issue until they update to the latest version or have this manually patched in their code (which Dropbox did since 2.4.5 it seems).

    Fixed it, I hope.

As recommended in this thread, I quit google drive and the issue stopped... for now.

There is an icon in the menu bar that looks like a recyle symbol.  clicking on that gets you a menu for google drive. Last item is "Quit Google Drive"

This suggestion worked for me. Google Drive is still running as far as I can tell, but disabling the status icons prevents Finder from crashing/restarting.

    Thanks!

Quitting google drive solve the problem for me as well. Hope this gets resolved soon!

I also only encountered the problem after several days from upgrading to Mavericks.

    Same problem here, same fix.

Google Drive crash Finder a couple of time every minute and you get a report crash in Console.

For me it started tomorrow (but I upgrade to Mavericks about a week ago).

I tryed to re-download & re-install Google Drive (version is 1.12.5329.1887) but it crashed the same.

The workaroud is (as Golden Mustache point out) going into Google Drive > Preferences and disabling "Show file sync status icons and right click menu". This will stop the crash without quitting Google Drive (at least in my experience).

I hope Google Drive guys fix this problem soon.

    Hi Guys,

I don't know where else to post this, but I am experiencing frequent Finder crashes in Mavericks. This occurs when I navigate to certain folders on my hard drive. The file finder box will just crash. BUT, you can navigate by using the arrows (tree?) navigation on the left. Only when you double click a folder does Finder crash. How weird, huh? and here's the most interesting part... this doesn't happen on the guest account, only my main admin account. I don't get it. I don't know what's going on. I've tried deleting a bunch of preferences, resinstalled Mavericks, cleared my PRAM, and all this other stuff. I've deleted anything that was running like Google Drive, Dropbox, Growl, etc... still crashing. So frustrating. I guess it started with the Mavericks install, but I only really realized it now.

I spoke too soon... it is also happening on the guest account. ****. Now I'm just really upset. Stupid Mavericks, and the stupid Finder.

This just started happening to me a few days ago. all finder icons flash on and off. For me it also seems to be a google drive issue. Quit Google drive and all sems fine. Not sure why it didnt happen immediately on Mavericks install though...

So far this worked for me, no more crashes

I see the icon for  Google Drive.  When I click on it, I see no "preferences" to click on.   It crashes before I can do anything.  If I send it to "trash"...will that work?

I didn’t have a Google Drive icon in the menu bar. I deleted Google Drive in the Log-on list in Users and Groups (System Preferences) and restarted. That stopped the Finder from crashing.
