Oct 23, 2013 10:53 AM in response to usomaniaby Jerrold Green1,It appears that an object that is sent to the Section Master is also sent to the Background. The two characteristics seem to now be linked.

Oct 24, 2013 9:30 AM in response to usomaniaby andy_huber,Having the same issue. Tried as well making "Master Objects Selectable" and am unable to edit images. Ability to manipulate objects with Pages '09 is THE REASON I loved it over MS Word. PLEASE, Apple, BRING BACK THE ORIGINAL OBJECT MANIPULATION TOOLS!

Nov 4, 2013 2:27 AM in response to usomaniaby seamus5,Ditto. The problem seems to be the inspector. They did away with the inspector (boo!) and what it was replaced with only shows the functions if an object is selectable.
So if I want the options to edit a table, create a table. Images, add an image.
Now the problem seems to be if an object is in the background, it is no longer selectable. Therefore, any of the settings we would have expected to see are not there.
In general, it seems the ability to have background objects has be severly limited in this version. I tried tables, text boxes, shapes, and pictures. It seems that pictures are the only items which can be moved from front to back. For the others, the option to make these changes in the inspector is greyed out.
Unacceptable.

Nov 7, 2013 9:57 AM in response to usomaniaby michael178,I encountered a similar problem with a couple of arrows that were imported from an old Pages document that I could not click directly on. I was able to resolve it by doing the following:
1. Move the mouse into the grey area directly to the right or left of the Pages document. Your pointer will switch from the text cursor to a normal mouse pointer.
2. Now that you have the mouse pointer, click and drag into the area where the object you want to select is. This should highlight the object you want to move and allow you to manipulate it (via the Object Placement menu).
Hope this helps.
Mike

It also worked for me to 'select all' (command a) and copy and paste the contents into a new Pages document. The images then became selectable.

Whaaa????
The new templates are crude and boring, because most of the features have been removed from Pages 5 that would make anything better actually work.
