Oct 12, 2015 3:21 AM in response to mzeaby craig30,I've just started to get this error message after upgrading to El Capitan. Worrying that this thread is 2 years old!
I don't have Mail set on in iCloud preferences and the reference is my Yahoo account, which was configured to forward to my @me.com address. When I go into Mail Accounts and click on iCloud, which I've never used, the error repeats. Is this some bizarre way of forcing people to use iCloud addresses rather than @me.com? I'm not keen on logging out of iCloud and having everything relevant deleted before setting back up again with the risk of it not working properly at the end!

Oct 12, 2015 3:39 AM in response to craig30by project7070,I don't see another way to troubleshoot this than logging out of iCloud in system prefs.
You should always have a backup anyhow - TC or external.
So backup, log out, and set up iCloud keychain again. However - I have not tried this on El Capitain, so cannot vouch for it this time.
Your emails will sync with the apple server.

Oct 12, 2015 8:00 AM in response to mzeaby craig30,Hi Project7070 - wasn't as painful as I feared! During closure of iCloud, there are various options to select to Keep data on Mac or delete, In most cases this seemed immaterial if iCloud is going to be setup again but I chose to Keep just in case. Once iCloud had closed, I couldn't re-open it but a Restart was sufficient to clear that.
The only item outstanding is that mail sent to my Yahoo account is also going to my @me.com account, whereas before this issue arose it was only going to @me.com. I've verified that forwarding from Yahoo is still setup, infact I removed it and re-configured it but still no joy. I don't understand why this hasn't cleared itself up? In iCloud, I don't have Mail selected on as I don't use iCloud.com.

Oct 12, 2015 8:13 AM in response to craig30by project7070,Glad you got the first bit sorted out!
I'm afraid I am not clear on your second problem - and even if I was, there are many things it could be - many settings across yahoo and in mail settings.
You will have to troubleshoot all settings from scratch.
Also suggest you set up a new account xxxxx@yahoo.com and see if that does the same. Then you know its on your mac if it does the same - and in yahoo if it doesn't. Then bin the new account. But it all sounds a bit messy.
You say you don't use iCloud - but you do if you use me.com - they're the same.
Yahoo mail has been around for a while - I don't use it so not sure if theres a problem there - maybe better with a new gmail or just stick to me.com
Generally the way to troubleshoot email accounts is to set up new ones, or trash old ones and set up as new. You don't want old settings hanging around.
Good luck!

Oct 12, 2015 8:52 AM in response to project7070by craig30,Added a new Yahoo mail account but same problem. You're right that I use iCloud - what I meant was I have Mail unselected in the iCloud settings. However, iCloud is configured around my Yahoo id so I'd have major issues to change this. I've looked for settings on the Mac in System Preferences/iCloud and Internet Accounts but can't find anything of use

Oct 23, 2015 12:48 PM in response to mzeaby BimboBoy,This just happened today after installing El Capitan on my brand new MacBook Air (bought it today). I tried to change the password and logout of iCloud and login back again, but now that error message is showing up on all of my Apple computers and phones, not just the MacBook Air. It seems like my stuff is being synced, but that error message is really annoying. It pops up every time I open an app like Mail or Notes. I hope they'll fix this in a new update soon...

Oct 23, 2015 2:11 PM in response to BimboBoyby Gotvel,Please help to understand. Put from zero 10.11.1. Now requires you to enter Apple ID password when using mail, notes, and so on. But the interesting thing is that during the initial configuration of the system, all tuned perfectly including keychain in Safari, bookmarks, contacts, photos and more. BUT now will not let me change these settings.
Here are the screenshots:
when you open mail, notes.
It in the settings:
Enter the password forever, for 2 seconds everything is OK, then again POPs up the message that can't sign in to iCloud and asks to enter the password again. Yes, from the site if I go all works without problems, all services are working fine, but this warning has already got... Please tell me how to solve the problem?
P. S. Going to settings > iCloud first 3 seconds you can even catch a tick to deliver/clean up. Then, the fun back and again click on iCloud, then again there is the opportunity to make changes you 3 seconds and all this without a password, then asks.

Oct 23, 2015 2:31 PM in response to Gotvelby ktanaka0504,My new Macbook Pro just started having the same/similar issue. The OS version is 10.11.1. I get the same error message. Even worse, the Macbook rejects my password for logging in. The strange thing is that if I disconnect my mac from the network, my password works fine. I asked Apple Support for help, but no fix or hope so far. So I stopped getting back to the support.

Oct 23, 2015 3:04 PM in response to ktanaka0504by pucknfruck,I'm having the same exact problem. My iMessages aren't coming through on the Mac either. I tried to Log Out of iCloud but it asks me for the password to do that also. I can't install new (non App Store) apps, such as Google Earth, because it asks for a password. I just got my MacBook yesterday. It worked great until a few hours ago. I'm hoping it is just something on Apples end and will be resolved soon.

Oct 23, 2015 6:00 PM in response to mzeaby Christoffer Berg,Solution for me:
I tried every possible solution I could find via. Google and lastly I just did this, which worked.
* Only do this, if you don't rely on your Keychain to remember your passwords completely.
Firstly log out of iCloud on every apple device you own.
Then:
> open Finder - Go - Go to folder - /Library
> Delete the folder named "Keychains" (it'll recreate when you login the next time)
> Quit all apps
> Restart your Mac
> Login to iCloud from system prefs
And that's how I fixed my problem.

Going to the Keychain before deleting it completely, and manually type in the right iCloud password only did the trick for me for 5 minutes at a time.
