Q: 5s - iOS 7.0.3 Crashes after TouchID Unlock

Hello,

after upgrading my 5s to 7.0.3 yesterday I experience crashes when trying to unlock the Device via TouchID.

The Springboard resprings (Black Screen, Apple Logo) and after a few seconds the Lockscreen appears again.

Deleting and creating new Fingerprints and even a Full Restore didnt do the trick.... still crashing up to 20 Times a Day

The Diagnosis Data says that the Springboard Crashes with an SigSegFault

Come on Apple..... Why?

Redmontino California or what?!

Same problem here. I did a complete erase and restore and the issue persists. I noticed it crashes less when holding a finger on the sensor for a second after it unlocks. However, it still crashes numerous times throughout the day. After reviewing this thread, I have turned the reduce motion off. Hopefully this will help. If I swipe and enter a passcode, it does not crash. It is clearly related to the fingerprint sensor unlock process.

Will Apple have a fix in 7.0.4? That is the question.

No crashes either since turning off Reduce Motion. And fingerprint recognition failure rate has decreased dramatically too. Didn't have to go through re-registering any fingerprints.   This on 7.0.3.   Suddenly a satisfied Touch ID user.

Since I turned off "reduce motion", I have not had the crash occur today. It appears that is the solution, until Apple comes out with an update for the problem.

I have to agree so far…although I  have not given it enough time to very that it has worked for me, but I will say…….my iphone 5s is responding much faster by deactivating the reduced motion feature.

    Using apple’s latest IOS 7.0.3

    Thanks for the good find.

At last, looks like a solution - other that writing better software - has been found.

Spent hours trying to find a solution to this, including two restores, a 'Genius' appointment (unfruitful) and then systematically turning settings on/off one at a time.

Pity, as I really dislike the 'Motion', but I'd rather have my luxury telephone work as intended!

Pity the 'Genius' I went to see didn't know about this. I ended up figuring out the 'Reduce Motion - OFF' thing for myself. Who's the Genius now?!

    THANK YOU APPLE!!

    Time for Gil Amelio?!?!?

I have had the iphone 5s when it came out and the only reason I got the iphone 5s was my iphone 4 home button stopped working and to my delight…..the On and off button broke, so I was unable to do anything and apple wanted $200 + to fix it.

So I went and got the iphone 5s, set up went really smooth and all my date transferred over to the new iphone without a hiccup.

After the first day my finger print stopped working, so I rest it again, work for most of the day, in the morning it stopped working again.

3 trips to the Apple Genius’ they replaced the phone for me in the end; I thought it must have been maybe a bad batch.

As of today the new one does the same thing’ works good for about half the day’ Now it getting on my nerves and I just disabled the password, so now all I do is press the home button and swipe and I’m in…works great every time……..But that’s not how it’s supposed to work, called my apple care sent them an email nor return what so ever ….. Must be fed up with me calling all the time’ I must have funny finger prints… (No pun intended).

So I sat down and did my own home work’ in the end I came to the conclusion if I disabled the Reduced Motion feature, because I didn’t like it for my locked screen…..well I didn’t believe my eyes…it worked…..it excepted my finger print….and the funny thing is’ I did not follow the proper instructions that apple gives on how to setup your finger print. I just used my same thumb without doing any adjustment like it asks you to-do…I also have come across other threads that did the same thing, so this should help Apple hopefully it can be addressed by a firmware update…Maybe.

Since updating my iphone 5s to 7.0.4 ….the update made no mention regarding the fingerprint recognition, I have had no issues what so ever, I’ve only added one fingerprint to my iphone.

Apple, you did something as my iphone would not last the day, since your released the update it has accepted my fingerprint every time.

Thank you so much Apple team.

    Mike

For all of you who are so pissed off at Apple ... there’s always Android, BlackBerry and Windows Phone platforms... go have your selves a pity party elsewhere.

As for the issue at hand (the TouchID crashing with Reduce Motion ON), a friend has confirmed that the 7.1 beta does fix this.

I think you're missing the point. We chose to purchase an Apple product, and a premium one at that, because Apple is supposedly so customer orientated, with the user experience at the heart of everything they do. Apparently, 'it just works'. Well it doesn't.

The main selling point of the iPhone 5S is the finger print ID. And when that sensor is causing the phone to crash in certain circumstances then it's only sensible and assertive to ask the question of why this hasn't been addressed.

It is possible to like something and be critical of it at the same time.

Thanks for clarifying the iphone 5s problem..., as someone has been suggesting that the Reduce Motion will fix the problem……I have had that feature turned off since I’ve had mine, its only part of the problem…….the algorithms on the A7 chip are in the process of 'software updating, but they are not sure as of yet’ if it will fix the problem completely, it just last longer if you turn the Reduce Motion off.

So you either give Apple a chance to fix the issue ... or just take the d*mn thing back. I’m sure Samsung would love to have you as a customer...

Then again, I am sure that if you were in charge of design and manufacturing we’d have a perfect device.

I'd be happy to give them time, if they would tell us they're working on this issue. The dilemna is phone support and the Genius bar are the interface, and they don't know what is being worked on .. it ought to be easy to put out a bug list that the Genius or phone support could check and tell the customers it's being worked on. All of my calls and Genius visits have met with no admission of it being a problem that's known and being worked on.

BTW, turning off reduce motion doesn't restore my malfunctioning finger scans to functioning. But, I created them when it was on .. could it be I need to recreate them with it off.

I have owned dozens of mac products. Since I paid for them, I'd like them to work as expected. Nothing wrong with that at all.

And, no. IOS 7.0.4 doesn't fix it.
