I just updated to Mavericks and noticed that I have lost functionality. I mirror my MacBook Pro to an external Sharp monitor using Airplay. While I am mirroring and zoom in on my screen, my screen will zoom but not the external monitor. In 10.8 this worked perfectly. Does anybody have ideas for how to enable this or a workaround?

are you 100% you are mirroring your display instead of extending your display?
I'll have to look at this issue when I get home since I do not mirror, I extend, which is a new feature in Mavericks.
I am sure. However, I also tried unmirroring and using the other monitor to extend my display (as a workaround). The zooming does not work on the monitor that is connected to the AppleTV (via Airport) in extended mode either.

I am in the same situation. I was able to show mirror my screen through AirPlay and AppleTV to a projector then zoom my screen as I wanted. This is no longer the case. Very frustrating for me and my students. Any help would be much appreciated.
instead of extending your moinitor, have you tried mirroring it?
Here is what I just made work for me - and it isn't perfectly what I want, but at least my students will be able to see what I am coding.
In the Accessability Panel's Zoom settings I changed from Full Screen to Picture-In-Picture style zooming.
This works, but I would rather have a full screen zoom.
A side note: The cursor size, and grey scale work, but the color inversion and high contrast settings do not work on the mirrored display.

Yes, I have extended and mirrored my screen, neither setting had any effect on the zoom, even when my AirPlay was the main display it did not zoom.
have you tried Picture in Picture zoom instead of fullscreen? I'm not in front of my appletv right now so I can't test this.
Thanks for that workaround. I am using the PIP solution for now, but it is not perfect.
I have also noticed that Airplay is spontaneously quitting after varying amounts of time. I'm sure they are unrelated, but I am underwhelmed by the issues that Mavericks has introduced. 😟
The PIP workaround didn't cut it for me. I ended up buying a third party app from the App Store.

You're right! Just tried Zoom It. Works better than the original OS X zoom. Thanks! Are there any other golden nuggets of technology you rely on consistently? I teach 5th grade English in an English/tech lab class with Macs. I love Edmodo and more.
