HDMI display no longer detected

Soon after updating to OS X Mavericks my Dell HDMI display stopped working (the screen went into power saving mode) and isn't detected by my Late 2012 Mac Mini. Have tried reboots and disconnecting the power and HDMI cables to no effect. I can remote desktop into the Mac MIni from a PC so can still access it to try different options.

Any suggestions?

So a temporary fix was to turn off the Mac Mini and disconnect the power. I came back an hour later plugged it back in and powered it on and the monitor came up fine. I left the Mini on all night and worked with during the day. Came back from eating dinner and the monitor did not wake up. I could still remote desktop into it and the system preferences showed that there was no display. It almost seems like the HDMI port is on the fritz after doing the update. I should have mentioned previously that I also attemped to use two different monitors with the original HDMI to DVI adapter which also didn't end up working. I also attempted the Detect Display hidden option to no avail. 😟

Hi Zirescu,

Sorry, can't provide any help, but I'm facing the same problem, except it was running with Mavericks before.

Had the MBP (Retina, 2012) in for repairs, comes back and does not work with the monitor anymore. It *detects* it (laptop screen goes black twice), but nothing in Preferences -> System.

I've tested the monitor and the cable with another system, on yet another system using DVI cable and the monitor/cable are working fine.

MBP via HDMI does not work and I even tried a Thunderbolt-DVI adapter but that's also no joy.

Cheers,

/u

Yeah, the issue still continues for me. I thought that I had it resolved by doing a NVRAM reset, but the dreaded issue came back. I initially noticed the issue would occur much faster if I was using VirtualBox, but after updating VirtualBox the issue isn't as prevalent. I'm also able to make the issue occur much quicker if I'm running a Flash based game in the browser. When the issue has occurs and I get back into the machine remotely and open the console I can see that the Window Server has gone sideways. Related output follows:

Hopefully someone looking at the above can determine where the issue lies. I never had any problems with this setup prior to Mavericks.

Mar 6, 2014 8:49 PM in response to Zirescu

So I eventually went out and bought a Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter and haven't had the issue return when using this configuration. Decided to add a second monitor to my setup this week and just had the monitor attached to the HDMI port go completely blank. The screen connected to the Thunderbolt port also blanked for a second as all of the applications that were open on the second display got moved over to the primary. Really disappointed that this problem has yet to be fixed by Apple.

Console log output for when this issue occured appeaers below:
