Dashcode in Mavericks

I have Dashcode 3.0.5 installed on my system (MacBook Air 2012) and I've just installed 'Mavericks'. Big white cross now over the Dashcode icon and warning 'You can't use this version of the application Dashcode with this version of OSX'. I've searched the Apple developer downloads page and there isn't an update for Dashcode. I would be very greatful if anyone could point me in the right direction.

Another option seems to be iAd Producer. This program started out as a development tool for iAds but now includes the ability to create widgets for iBooks!! It's a little different and I've only just started but I can see the potential. Has a lot of code-less ability. I haven't found a lot of low (my) level documentation yet but I think I might be able to work with it.

Did not see any audio in iAds demo. Really sorry to see dashcode will no longer be supported. Workarounds are getting kinda crazy - and very time consuming. I tried building a widget with Hype 2, but when I tried to edit the html in iBooks Author because it came in with "features" I wanted to change, clicking on the Edit HTML button in iBooks Author just caused the software to crash. Would love to see Apple support a serious widget platform if that is only way we can really add customized work to iBooks. I am also compiling a wish list for iBooks Author. Kinda like "back in the day" with Adobe.

There is an audio/video object that might work.

As far as editing the Hype 2 widget you should probably edit in Hype or if not too complicated you could click on the widget and Show Package. This gives you access to the .html and .js files that can be edited as plain text. Save and back out of the Show Package window. You would need to then include the new version into iBooks with the choose optionin the Inspector.

  1. In Finder right click on Dashcode app
  2. Click Show Application Contents
  3. Open Contents directory
  4. Open Info.plist with TextEdit

Now modify the bundle identifier:

<key>CFBundleIdentifier</key>

<string>com.apple.Dashcode</string>

to

<key>CFBundleIdentifier</key>

<string>com.apple.DashcodeLegacy</string>

Done.

You can now open Dashcode without any Terminal tricks.

It works. Hallelujah 2014!

Also when you try to launch Dashcode it might say the App is corrupted and you need to move it to the trash.

To fix this, go to System Preferences, Security and Privacy and under General select Allow apps downloaded from anywhere. Try to launch Dashcode again, click Open.

Make sure you go back to System Preferences after this and enable back "Mac App Store and ... Developers" second option.

Adobe just released a new program called Edge Animate that is great at creating widgets. Since Dashcode is deceased (stupid Apple), Adobe stays on top of it. It is a part of their CC Suite. It is very well done, much better than Hype 2. It allows you to add custom scripts like JavaScript and JQuery, combine it with animation, and export as a widget file.

Highly recommended if you're looking for something to create custom widgts for iBooks.
