Dashcode in Mavericks

I have Dashcode 3.0.5 installed on my system (MacBook Air 2012) and I've just installed 'Mavericks'. Big white cross now over the Dashcode icon and warning 'You can't use this version of the application Dashcode with this version of OSX'. I've searched the Apple developer downloads page and there isn't an update for Dashcode. I would be very greatful if anyone could point me in the right direction.

I reverted one of my Macs to Mountain Lion so that I could continue to use Dashcode and a couple of other apps.

I don't usually upgrade immediately. I like to wait until the third party developers get caught up. The reason I upgraded everything at once was to see if Mavericks had gained some of the efficiency that got lost in Lion/Mountain Lion.

I'm gradually geting used to the new features but some of the changes leave me cold. I think the old Dock was a lot better than this new one and I find it difficult to see which apps are "live" on my MBP Retina.

Managed to get it running, let's hope Apple updates the app soon.

Go to your Applications folder, right click (ctrl click) on the Dashcode app, click Show Package Contents and in there go to the MacOS folder. Click the "Dashcode" terminal application in that folder.

Dashcode should now launch... along with a terminal window, you have to wait a bit.

That's it... it should work... you still get the horrible cross sign on the app though. And it might ask for your permission to access you Contacts and everything else.

Note. You can drag this terminal app to the desktop to create an alias directly to it, this way you get a faster way to launch it.

Note2. To close the app, first quit Dashcode, then quit the Terminal app.

PS. Need is a wonderful teacher! I wish they would make this available in the App Store, i would pay for that. It's a niche app, not many people use it, but those who do know its worth.

I opened a bug report with Apple about this and received the following answer:

"Dashcode is no longer under development, and is not supported on OS X Mavericks. You will need to run OS X Mountain Lion in order to continue using Dashcode."

I guess we have to use the (barely functional) workaround to launch the executable directly, re-install ML, or just abandon Dashboard development altogether...

Many thanks to everyone for their replies to this thread. Thank you to in particular to basilmir for the work around. What a shame that Dashcode isn't being developed further. As with others in this thread, I learned how to use it in order to create widgets for iBooks, it was the software that was promoted for that purpose when IBA was first released. Has anyone used iAd? Thank you again to everyone but what a shame about the ultimate outcome.

That works. After a few fiddles I got a VM in Parallels with Mountain Lion and ran Dashcode. Just like before. Sometime it doesn't save newly opened projects other times it does. This is my test of whether it had started up properly. I was able test run one of my widget. I think it will work. Another work around would be to screen share with another (older) Mac running Mountain Lion. The Parallels solution looks better.

I hope Apple changes and updates Dashcode. Anyone found other suitable software for graphics, canvas, type widgets?
